In a major defeat for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and fellow Democrats in the commonwealth, the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee voted to not move forward with HB961, the "assault weapons" ban and magazine confiscation bill, on Monday for the rest of the year.
In a 10-5 vote, with four Democrats joining the Republicans, Committee voted to for a crime commission to study the bill to see if it is worth pursing next year. The bill would have banned AR-15s and other similar styles of rifles and banned being able to own magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.
When the bill failed to pass, cheers erupted and some, including law enforcement officers, stood up in celebration. Virginia Delegate Mark Levine, who helped passed the bill in the House, and his collegues in the front row were seen to be very disappointed.

You mean like when California shelved their AW ban bill because of public opposition, then they released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to buy a handgun in Cali, passing the waiting periods, then buy an AK in Oregon.
Then he went and shot up the Stockton school yard and shot himself.
The shelved bill was pulled out and passed so fast no opposition could be mounted against it.
