Leaving the Philippines seems like the right move. But be prepared for the backlash in this country when the first incident that happens overseas that our presence might have prevented. Whether in the Philippines or Afghanistan or Iraq or any other hell-hole we bail on.

I agree with Pat about 85% of the time. This is one of them. I’m sick and tired of pouring billions of dollars into 2nd and 3rd world sink holes who don’t appreciate it.

“Our $s were hip money for the Marcos family...”

And their cronies. This “foreign aid” scam has to come to a stop. There’s zero Constitutional authority for Congress to give taxpayer money to other countries.

And as we’ve seen it’s nothing more than a pipeline to enrich politically connected ne’er do wells.

Nor is China, though Xi Jinping has occupied and fortified islets like Mischief Reef in the South China Sea that are within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.

There is no U.S. vital interest at risk in these islands to justify an eternal war guarantee or treaty commitment to fight Beijing over rocks and reefs in the South China Sea.

Complete isolationist non-sense.

Like it or not, Pax Americana is what keeps the world functioning.

If you want your future dominated by the Chinese telling what can and cannot be said, advertised, or sold, follow Pat's advise.

The entire world is smaller, in practical terms, than the entire 13 colonies were in 1776.

Either we shape the international environment, or we become dominated by those who do.

and shoe money.. Imelda's 3000+ shoe collection was eventually destroyed by water and termites in the basement of their national museum.

We tried that and the globalists/progressive corportists ended up selling the American people out to China and Mexico anyway.

Trump is playing poker with Duterte. But Trump, unlike Duterte, is holding the high cards. Will be interesting to watch...

There’s zero Constitutional authority for Congress to give taxpayer money to other countries.

Where do you get that from?

Congress controls tax money.

The nation started paying other countries in 1786, before the Constituion was ratified in 1789, and continued to do so ever since.

No one thought it was unconstitutional, at least that I have read.

We went to war against Muslim countries in the Mediterranean in 1801, some of our first work to secure freedom of the seas.

I.E. both parties. We are now a client state of China with a paper tiger military with a hell of a first punch that could not be sustained is a world wide conflict or war of attrition that lasted over a period of years.

I haven’t been there in many years but I wonder what happened in Olangapo when the base closed.

Either we shape the international environment, or we become dominated by those who do.

Wisdom!

If they get out from under America's wing, they will swiftly find themselves under China's...and there are consequences to that -- for us all.

Whereas if we make certain correct moves, we will see China diminished and perhaps it will experience a positive change in its political system.

I made my point. You are being willfully blind. It matters not to defend the South China Sea if anchor babies and legal immigrants are nullifying our votes at here at home.

Let’s flip off the flippin’ Flips. They’re probably loaded with coronavirus anyway. And please don’t try to tell me that China is going to run the world…that is complete nonsense. Save the money and pay down the the debt.
