‘Sesame Street’ has become ‘Meet the Feebles’. It just isn’t a kids’ show anymore.
Mr. Snuffleupagus was brought on as an allegory to child molestation. The point was to teach kids that they can see things that adults can't see - or are wilfully blind to. It's also why he is designed the way he is. Sesame Street is capable of working on levels that the parents might not be aware of.

At least parents can turn it on and see what they are doing and then turn it off. However, they don’t have this much control of what is happening inside the classrooms of America.

From it's very beginning. My father would not allow me to watch it. I did not allow my children to watch it. And my children don't allow my grandchildren to watch it.
Every once in a while channel scanning I will stop and look at programs like Sesame Street just to see what is going on . I find Sesame Street a foreign land. That's not the America where I grew up.
I got Sesame Street in very small doses when I was little. Instead of tv, I had books read to me, and I watched a lot of old videos. (Favorite: Faerie Tale Theatre on vhs.)
I got the hang of reading by age 2, but nothing beats reading along with a happy and engaged parent.
