Casinos in Macau, the worlds biggest gambling hub, reopen on Thursday after being closed for two weeks because of the coronavirus epidemic, but all punters and croupiers will have to wear a mask at the tables. Casino executives and residents say revenue will remain badly crimped in the Chinese territorys 41 casinos and the businesses dependent on them because of the health restrictions and strict entry regulations on tourists. Macau makes over 80 per cent of its revenues from casinos but tourist visits have all but dried up.

IIRC the world’s largest casino is in Macau. I’ve been there and the harborside is lined with huge casinos...they’re the city’s only industry.

A punter is someone who makes bets, ie a gambler.
Thanks...I kept thinking they were opening up for a sports team like football players but it didnt make sense.
“Punter” is British for “gambler” or “bettor”.
Gambling is illegal on the mainland but China allows it in Macau because it earns big money for China.
