'Why don't we teach American history anymore?'

Why don’t we teach American history anymore?

George Washington’s birthday is Feb. 22. Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is Feb. 12. And Ronald Reagan’s birthday is Feb. 6. Instead of honoring Washington and Lincoln on the anniversary of their actual day of births, we combine them all into one holiday called President’s Day.

America is an exceptional country. We have become an exceptional country because of great leaders like Washington, Lincoln and Reagan. There are others too — like Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy. Yet, many of our schools gloss over these important leaders, if they even mention them at all.

My kids learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks during February when they were in school. That is a good result. King was a remarkable leader and Parks was the inspiration for many in the civil rights movement.

Still, how is it possible to overlook the significance of the leader who signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves during the middle of the Civil War? It’s like we forget why his face is chiseled on the side of Mount Rushmore and why his memorial sits at the end of the National Mall. Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States and the first Republican to hold that office.

Washington was so respected by his men at the conclusion for the Revolutionary War he could have been the king of the new nation. Instead, Washington wanted to help create a nation built on liberty. And after serving eight years as president of the United States of America, he returned to his beloved Mount Vernon. He set the standard for future presidents and showed us that the role of the government is to serve the people and not the other way around.

The are taught American history....

White supremacists brought slaves and founded an exploitative capitalist country that pollutes and steals the natural resources of Third World peoples. President Obama, our greatest Chief Executive, freed the slaves by proclamation during his second term.

So much for the young minds to absorb./s

Why don't we teach American history anymore?,

Because people who know history know what works and what doesn't work. If they don't know any history they will accept what any charismatic demagogue tells them if it sounds good. History is a disvalue in the managerial state as is rational thought and logic. Even higher math is feeling the blows of the Left in their demands to equalize positions and credentials among races and sexes and any other varieties of newly discrete groups.

The left has politicized history. To avoid ‘controversy’ and head-off charges of inflaming racism it was easier for schools to simply stop teaching history.

Schools are crap. They don’t teach advanced math or science because the teachers aren’t able to. And that is doubly true for computer programming. They don’t teach Philosophy. They don’t teach ethics. They don’t teach the history you learned. My five kids call it, “why white people are bad” history. Even language is now limited to Spanish and Chinese. And that is normally taught by someone who barely speaks the language. Schools as well as journalism, colleges, and much of government have been taken over by “the long march through the institutions”. You can Google it. It was Antonio Gramsci and Rudi Dutschke’s plan to take over capitalism and democracy from the inside. The idea is to dissolve the American institutions by taking them over from within. From all appearances, its working.

By the way, Pete Buttigieg’s father, a professor at Notre Dame, made translating Antonio Gramsci as his life’s work. So, if you think Pete is a capitalist, your wrong.

I watched the film, “Washington” on the History Channel a few days ago and thought the character portraying Washington was poorly done. I have read about Washington’s life for many years. He is one of my favorites. I didn’t recognize the Washington I know in the film.

I posted the answer back in 2015 and earlier.

To these people, nations are nothing but occupied land. They ignore that a national culture emerged to mobilize a people to improve their lot, defend against encroachers, and educate their young to sustain what their predecessors have built in order to pass it on to their own posterity.

All these people see today is a territory of resources to exploit, and an indigenous peope who are in their way. In order to overthrow them, they must first disconnect them from their history by making nationalism a sin.

I dunno...but I suspect it has more than just something to do with the fact that American History started out with white males calling out the world’s BS in the 1600’s...

Even language is now limited to Spanish and Chinese.

That's interesting. Chinese is one of the hardest languages for an English-speaker to learn.

At the Richard Nixon presidential library a short time ago, I met a grade-school kid with his dad who were touring the museum and the subject of the Vietnam War came up. The kid soon began comparing the war to the Hundred Years War.

Since I doubted that most grade school kids today have even heard of the Hundred Years War, I asked him where he went to school, and he told me he was homeschooled. I then told him that I figured that he was, since he was smarter than most kids his age.
