commentaries broadcast by about 350 radio stations and heard by tens of millions of Americans. When I listened to a collection of these broadcasts recently, it sounded like Reagan was warning us about the socialism preached by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
Throughout his nearly five-year radio run, Reagan preached that the promises of socialism were lies. He noted that we often grow so accustomed to them, however, that we lose the fear of the ideology itself.
In one of his commentaries, Reagan quotes a line he once spoke in a play highlighting the far-left ideologys danger: I never knew what freedom was until I saw you lose yours.
In another commentary, the future president tells of a young man debating a socialist who criticized anyone wanting to pursue the finer things in life.
Socialists ignore the side of man that is of the spirit, Reagan said back in 1975. They can provide shelter, fill your belly with bacon and beans, treat you when youre ill all the things that are guaranteed to a prisoner or a slave. But they dont understand we also dream, yes, even of owning a yacht.
Reagan also warned against Big Government becoming a nanny state, trying to run our lives even with the best of intentions.
When news broke of a school trying to ban hot dogs and root beer and force cafeterias to carry more healthful fare, Reagan said: Do-gooders, busy-bodies and bureaucrats need to learn that people dont like to be told what to do. Kids are kids and sometimes persuasion is better than dictatorship.
Sounds like Regan was talking about former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg competing with Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination and Bloombergs infamous campaign against large cups of soda being sold, doesnt it?

God bless Ronald Reagan.
As Mark Steyn said recently while filling in for Rush (and he may have been quoting someone else: “You can vote your way into socialism, if you want to. But the only way out if you decide you don’t like it is to shoot your way out.”
Most millennials don’t even know who Reagan or Bush was.
The only Republican presidents they know were Bush 43 and Trump, and the media’s narrative of them are not so good.
“But they dont understand we also dream, yes, even of owning a yacht.
Well, a boat big enough to get me to my deserted island with lots tropic fruit, plenty of fresh sea food and a beautiful island girl.
Faux News trots out another misleading headline.
Reagan was talking about socialism in general, not Burnout Sanders specifically.
It’s amazing how all the “dumb, uneducated, not schooled in our elite schools” folks somehow keep turning out to be correct, whilst the upper class twits who somehow managed all that eddikashun without learning anything turn out to be wrong.
We need not only to drain the swamp, but to permanently quarantine all of the vermin who were drained.
Amazing how Reagans election is farther from us today than Pearl Harbor was from Reagans election.
I have an old 16mm film from the 60’s on the evils of communism.
“The Truth about Communism”
The narrator - Ronald Reagan.
Introduction by Alexander Kerensky
It’s great to see that history is studied and understood by our political science majors.
Of course they all learned about Kerensky. \s to the max.
One thing about Bernie Sanders he proves how many stupid people are in this country and have no understanding how Hitler came to power.
Why is everyone on the right freaking about the Dems potentially nominating Bernie. Folks need to hold their fire.
Most millennials dont even know who Reagan or Bush was.
Yep, I work with ignorant leftists in their 40s.
You say Ronald Reagan and the only words they have are Iran-contra.
Ask them what that was and they give you a puzzled look like -you werent supposed to ask that! - THAT was supposed to have nailed the argument shut!
No understanding, no knowledge of history outside of what CNN has told them in the past 3 weeks...
That’s the purpose of a civil war...
Collectivism is unnatural. It involves the hard-working productive individuals giving their earnings to incompetent lazy slobs. Rightfully so, they resent being forced to do that. Throw the indolent sloths a bone and some scraps, but don’t treat them like kings.
That is why socialism needs to be propped up by dictatorial laws that force compliance. If bernie becomes president, we will see the cruel, coercive side of government.
As Mark Steyn said recently while filling in for Rush (and he may have been quoting someone else: You can vote your way into socialism, if you want to. But the only way out if you decide you dont like it is to shoot your way out.
