An assault team uses night vision equipment to execute an operation. Then, once secured, white light is used for admin purposes. Utilities have been cut, etc, and every advantage is used to minimize risk to the “good guys” while removing ability from the subjects/occupants.

Remember, a bright light flashed on in the dark blinds (at least partially) both the user and the subject.... Try it in a dark room- switch one your 400 lumen tac light pointed at the wall and see if you can see your weapon sights or much of anything else from the dazzle effect in that moment...

Best practice for the non NVG equipped homeowner would be soft low level lighting , ie night lights, in key outlets to provide back light from where the homeowner likely can see, and then use good quality night sights or dot type sights for target acquisition....

You do realize we're talking about the average house dweller, who doesn't have such equipment, not to mention the time to put in on? Cutting utilities? Again, home invaders.

I've done that pointing into my living room while considering my time as an occupant would normally hear where to shine it. There was no "dazzle effect". I immediately saw a BRIGHTLY lit room. I could immediately see every piece of furniture, framed photos, and knick-knacks. The perp would see a mass of light. I know because I had my wife do it to me. She said the same thing about the hugely lit room, and I told her I couldn't see other than a mass of light until my pupils adjusted, which would be 2 or more rounds too late.

Why are you talking about aim with shotgun loaded with buck and visualizing the invader? Get off my SpecOp comment. BTW, they just don't use the lights for admin purposes. If I'm wrong, show me.

I agree with low level lighting in strategic locations. What would you suggest for those on a budget? However, "night sights" again for the basic house dweller? Please. "Dot type sights"? Really, for enclose dark spaces?

Stating anything about needing an attorney raises their “He has something to hide” hackles....

That really does not matter at all. The Police are not your friends in a "self-defense" incident. Plan accordingly.

Your silence can be used against you, up to the point where you state that you need to speak to your attorney. Yes, this published advice from a real defense attorney (Andrew F. Branca).

You aren't going to talk the police out of arresting you, but you very well may talk them into it. The less you say in the "interview" the better.

At some point, shortly after you have identified yourself and handed over credentials, you must invoke your 5th amendment rights - and then shut up.

Just because you aren't immediately arrested, does not mean they cannot come back for you later after a review by the Prosecutor's office.

Exactly. The less said, the better.
