Coronavirus did not originate in Wuhan seafood market, Chinese scientists say; Analysis of 93 virus samples suggests it was imported from elsewhere

The novel coronavirus that has claimed the lives of more than 2,400 people did not originate at a seafood market in the central China city of Wuhan as was first thought, according to a new study by a team of Chinese scientists.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was instead imported from elsewhere, said researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Institute for Brain Research.

The team, led by Dr Yu Wenbin, sequenced the genomic data of 93 SARS-CoV-2 samples provided by 12 countries in a bid to track down the source of the infection and understand how it spreads.

What they found was that while the virus had spread rapidly within the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, there had also been two major population expansions on December 8 and January 6.

According to the study, which was published on the institute’s website on Thursday, analysis suggested that the coronavirus was introduced from outside the market.

“The crowded market then boosted SARS-CoV-2 circulation and spread it to the whole city in early December 2019,” it said.

Earlier reports by Chinese health authorities and the World Health Organisation said that the first known patient showed symptoms on December 8, and that most of the subsequent cases had links to the seafood market, which was closed on January 1.

The research went on to say that based on the genome data it was possible that the virus began spreading from person to person in early December or even as early as late November.

“The study concerning whether Huanan market is the only birthplace of SARS-CoV-2 is of great significance for finding its source and determining the intermediate host, so as to control the epidemic and prevent it from spreading again,

I get that it’s fashionable to blame bat soup, but the real issue is how the Chinese govt has been able to stay afloat and fatten their pockets because of all the helpful hands they’ve had from the traitorous elites in the West and around the world.

Surprisingly, the Chinese Propaganda News Outlet, GLOBAL TIMES also acknowledges this.

NOT: This is a daily tabloid newspaper under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party’s People’s Daily newspaper.

TITLE:

New Chinese study indicates novel coronavirus did not originate in Huanan seafood market

(EXCERPT)

A new study by Chinese researchers indicates the novel coronavirus may have begun human-to-human transmission in late November from a place other than the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan.

The study published on ChinaXiv, a Chinese open repository for scientific researchers, reveals the new coronavirus was introduced to the seafood market from another location, and then spread rapidly from market to market. The findings were the result of analyses of genome-wide data, sources of infection and the route of spread of 93 samples of the novel coronavirus collected from 12 countries across four continents.

The study believes that patient zero transmitted the virus to workers or sellers at the Huanan seafood market. The crowded market facilitated the further transmission of the virus to buyers, which caused a wider spread in early December 2019.

According to the researchers, the new coronavirus experienced two sudden population expansions, including one on January 6, 2020, which was related to the Chinese New Year’s Day holiday.

An earlier expansion occurred on December 8, implying human-to-human transmission may have started in early December or late November, and then accelerated when it reached the Huanan seafood market.

On January 6, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a second-level emergency response, which the researchers said served as a warning against mass public activity and travel.

If the warnings had received wider public attention, the number of cases spreading nationally and globally in mid-to-late January would have been lower, said the researchers.

Yeah - a closer reading of the text reveals what the headline writer was trying to hide with "imported":

My bolding. That lab would have qualified. How it got there is known only to the Chinese government.

TITLE: Don’t buy China’s story: The coronavirus may have leaked from a lab

(EXCERPT)

According to the PLA Daily, Gen. Chen has been researching coronaviruses since the SARS outbreak of 2003, as well as Ebola and anthrax. This would not be her first trip to the Wuhan Institute of Virology either, since it is one of only two bioweapons research labs in all of China.

Does that suggest to you that the novel coronavirus, now known as SARS-CoV-2, may have escaped from that very lab, and that Gen. Chen’s job is to try and put the genie back in the bottle, as it were? It does to me.

Add to this China’s history of similar incidents. Even the deadly SARS virus has escaped — twice — from the Beijing lab where it was — and probably is — being used in experiments. Both “man-made” epidemics were quickly contained, but neither would have happened at all if proper safety precautions had been taken.

And then there is this little-known fact: Some Chinese researchers are in the habit of selling their laboratory animals to street vendors after they have finished experimenting on them.

You heard me right.

Instead of properly disposing of infected animals by cremation, as the law requires, they sell them on the side to make a little extra cash. Or, in some cases, a lot of extra cash. One Beijing researcher, now in jail, made a million dollars selling his monkeys and rats on the live animal market, where they eventually wound up in someone’s stomach.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Yeah, from the BSL-4 lab just down the street!

And what about the pig virus that killed half their pigs last year?

Bird virus?

You have to be naive or dumb as hell to beleive the ChiCom governments stories. Why is this crap ONLY coming out of China? We’re not polluting the world with bio-weapons and neither is any other country. Just China.

Think about Hong Kong and Taiwan for a while.

Many are curious about the possible contamination connection of a bio level 4 lab about 20 miles from wuhan wet market.

RE: Yeah, from the BSL-4 lab just down the street!

There are actually two labs suspected. One is the BSL-4 Wuhan Virology lab. But that is 20 miles away from the Huanan Seafood market.

The most likely one is the Wuhan CDC which is just a few hundred meters away from the SeaFood market.

A Scientific study has been written by two scientists commissioned by Beijing from South China University of Technology that concluded this.

It was reported right away on a site from India I think, that said it originally was from Saudi Arabia, and a sample of it went to Canada years ago for study in their biolab. It was in Canada that Chinese “exchange” doctors were working in the Canadian biolab, and suddenly expelled from Canada. The reason was covered up, but they were suspected of espionage and actually shipped material from Canada to China. That is the theory that the virus got to a China biolab from a biolab in Canada. From China, they screwed up and let it out. That was the initial theory discussed lots of places weeks ago when all this broke.
