I don’t remember what grade it was, but the teacher was singing the praises of some politician, and I raised my hand and said:
“My grandpa told me all politicians were crooks.”
The teacher was _not_ happy. ;-)
(btw, grandpa was in the construction business and paid off politicians with suitcases full of cash—he was _not_ speculating on the topic.)
Donald Trump was also in the construction business and has made some statements that allude to the fact politicians are shakedown artists just like the Mafia and seem to work hand in hand with them. He learned about the “swamp” by personal experience.
My grandpa WAS in politics. A high-ranking Democrat party official who was a pretty significant player at the local level.
Privately he agreed with your grandpa.
He eventually left the party and voted for Reagan in 1980.
