WASHINGTONTop White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Friday that socialism rather than coronavirus poses a greater risk to the U.S. economy amid ongoing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus.
At this years Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the largest gathering of conservatives, Kudlow touted the current state of the economy but noted that the uncertainty arising from the outbreak spread fears throughout financial markets, sending stocks lower.
The U.S. stock market lost nearly 15 percent from the record highs reached just nine days ago at the time of writing. And the VIX, the volatility index, has jumped to the highest level since the financial crisis of 2008.
Nevertheless, the country is in safe hands, Kudlow said.
[The coronavirus] is not going to sink the American economy. What could sink America is socialism coming from our friends on the other side of the aisle.
Economists believe that the coronavirus will have a negative short term effect on the U.S. economy, primarily in the first quarter. But they expect the economy to make up for the losses in the following quarters.
Kudlow, in his speech, targeted Democratic candidates who embrace socialism. He said that history proved that the American free enterprise model would whip socialism.
Speaking at the event, President Donald Trumps daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump said that women have been the biggest beneficiary of economic expansion buoyed by Trumps pro-growth policies, including tax reform and deregulation.

All these people who think our socialism-lite that is screwing up our country, don’t know how bad it would be under actual full-blown socialism.
COVID-19?
It’s the Pelosi-Schumer virus.
Branding is Everything.
There is an X factor though.
Widespread panic.
And yet for years Kudlow has advocated for importing more socialist voters and amnestying the ones here illegally.
Same with Flimsey Grahamnesty.
I have lived on the Gulf Coast most of my life. As I told a friend of mine - I'm not prepping for the virus - I'm prepping for the fear of the virus. I've seen the panic that hits before a major hurricane. The panic that will sweep the country when many people think a "major hurricane" is coming to the nation will be - well - dramatic.
That's what I am preparing for. The virus doesn't scare me - but scared people worry me a little.
Yep, I’m down here on the Gulf Coast my whole life too. Seen it, been caught unprepared once too.
I’ve been slowly stocking for a couple of weeks, going to the store every day. It’s probably not nearly enough for the Apocalypse, but I also don’t want to be stampeded.
People are far more dangerous than this virus.
It wouldnt just sink the economy. It would end the beautiful experiment in self governance and eventually usher in a Maduro or Stalin or Mao dictatorship.
Yep - "a person is smart, people are dumb, panicky animals" - K, Men in Black
Absolutely.
If Bernie the Commie was ever seen as having a shot at winning watch the market crater by 50% or more.
Yep, hmm that’s a great quote.
Basically the stampede effect.
Yep. Same here with living near the Gulf Coast. Like you, we’ve seen it many times also. Katrina and Rita come to mind as some of the more recent ones, but there have been others as well. It’s not the storm itself, although it is dangerous, but the fear and panic that embraces people before the storm that is far more scary. We’ve learned to always stay prepared for a potential storm and have now beefed up our preparations over the past few days in order to avoid any panicked crowds should that happen. I will say this: Those big storms in the past brought out the very best in some folks....and the very worst in others.
Again, like you with this, it ain’t the virus that worries us nearly as much as panicked people. Those of us who’ve been thru these hurricanes over the years have learned to be, and are, better prepared both physically & mentally than say those elsewhere that have never had a first-hand disaster experience before. Those folks are ones that could potentially have a rough time.
Yep - I remember Rita very well. I was working on the rideout team (military) but sent my wife out long before the long evacuation lines. But - there have been some other close calls that just created a little panic and caused a run on water.
Heck - here in Houston just the mention of snow can cause the stores to run out of water. Supplies are already getting low - so just imagine when a few cases start popping up after the rodeo is over. Yeah - no thanks - that's no time to get the stuff you need. I'll pass.
Except I wasn’t being hyperbolic.
I don’t have enough for the Apocalypse. Simple statement of fact.
Is corona the Apocalypse? I dunno.
——Is corona the Apocalypse?-—
No, of course not
Bernie is the apocalypse
