Yes, the manuals were definitely dusty and we both have had cranky sinuses today. LOL
I gather y’all got lucky and missed out on this round of wet weather that’s moving through here now. Must be nice!
It looks like Gizmo’s staring at his shadow thinking, “That sure looks like a dog but it doesn’t have a smell.” LOL
Wood also holds officer service #2 in the Regular Army
Neat that they decided to preserve a little of the WWII history there. I imagine seeing that video clip brought back a flood of memories, even if a few might have been a little uncomfortable. ;-)
Uh oh...stay warm!
No hiking today. It’s getting c-c-cold again.
One feature of my basic at Leonard Wood was they had created a basic training battalion in which each of the companies in the battalion had guys from different parts of the country.
Another was a sorry scene of a young scrawny kid who possibly had lied about his age. He was not only very young, even physically immature, and either mentally immature or a little slow in the head. Yes, the drill sergeants needed him to understand how hard he had to work during basic, but in my view what they did was take advantage of him.
One time many of us had learned that a certain out house was infested with crabs/lice. We were all resting after a couple hours of hiking. The kid had to go to the bathroom and asked permission to go. The drill sergeants intentionally sent him to the infested out housed, and as he headed there began laughing. Of course what followed was the kid had a really bad case of lice and had to be sent to the dispensary. WAS that merely the drill sergeants being the necessary hard asses they were. No, that was being cruel.
Rightfully I don’t think the kid should have made it into basic, and sometime before graduation he was sent home. It lowered my respect for the drill sergeants.
Just read you had an earthquake earlier this week. Were you awake or asleep? They are always a shock. Glad there was no damage.
We were awake. It was right before midnight and it was a huge boom that shook the house. I thought it was an explosion or that someone had a bad wreck close by, but then the TV station sent a notification that wed just had a 3.0 earthquake. It wasnt that far from us and thats why it was so loud. It was my first one since living here. No damage...except to our nerves. LOL!
