Bill Kristol thought the candidate to beat Trump in 2016 was Evan McMullin, a career nebbish whose most distinctive accomplishment was shaving his head to reveal a striking resemblance to insufferable children’s TV cartoon character Caillou.
This season, he thinks the conservative candidate to beat Trump is a Democrat who has failed at every run for president he has tried for over three decades, and only this past week won his first primary in a state that hasn’t voted Democrat in a presidential election since 1976.
Kristol isn’t a conservative, he’s not respected in any circle, nor is he anything resembling a pundit. He’s a caricature of how Democrats would like to see a Republican behave so that they could invite one to a dinner party as a novelty and watch them change their voter registration at the end of the night.
