NYT’s 1619 Project is dishonest attack on nation’s founding principles

It isn’t an overstatement to describe The New York Times’ 1619 Project as a journalistic declaration of war against America. Many of the project’s historical claims are downright fabrications — but in the most decisive respect, that’s besides the point.

The project’s leader, Nikole Hannah-Jones, has tried to brush off the criticism of many distinguished historians by claiming that such disagreement is how historiography always proceeds — as we learn progressively more, a new “narrative” challenges old ones.

The 1619 Project, however, isn’t about new historical scholarship, and insofar as journalism is about the quest for truth, it isn’t quite journalism, either. As eminent scholars and stalwart liberals, such as Princeton University’s Sean Wilentz, have pointed out, the project makes utterly preposterous claims — above all, the notion that protecting slavery was a central motivation in launching the Revolutionary War and thus the American project.

Make no mistake — 1619 is a political project, aimed at piercing the heart of the US regime by overturning the American understanding of justice. As James Madison said, “Justice is the end of government,” it is “the end of civil society.” We seek justice “until it be obtained, or until liberty be lost in the pursuit.” To transform America, you have first to destroy its understanding of justice.

American justice is based on the understanding that while we are all unequal in many respects — talents, beauty, strength, discipline and so on — our fundamental equality as human beings means that all citizens should be treated equally under the law. And law should be ordered toward the common good of all, rather than classes or groups.

That understanding is embodied in the principles of the Declaration of Independence of 1776.

This 1619 “project” is nothing more than the groundwork being laid for resperations. It’s an evil tactic by the communist subversives. The Bible says that the sins of the father shall not be visited on the son. Not to mention that slave owners were a minority of whites. So the commies can go fck themselves.

Listing all of the areas where the New York Times puts integrity and honesty on full display would take up so little band width, that it would easily fit into a Twitter post with tons of room to spare.

The Education (so called) Establishment which I refer to as The Edutocracy has a strong foothold in the United States and abetted by State Constitutions giving them control over Education in each state. Even if one were to try and provide n alternative in most cases the funding for them still flows through the Bureaucracy of the Government School System. They can and do impose restrictions of hiring only Union Teachers, only using Public School curriculum and other barriers to impede people from an alternative.

This is why the SOTU was the right platform for the President to speak about “Opportunity Scholarships” that allow recipients to attend a school of their choice with the scholarship paying for the cost. People missed the importance of the young lady that was pointed out with her mother and that she had been given one. She was black and I know from extensive research that the poorest schools with the worst teachers are most typical in black neighborhoods.

I lived in Chicago for over 15 years and maintain a lot of contacts there to this day. It is still true and worse the CPS is a strong union shop and at least in the city has a death grip on what happens, and no recourse for families and students.

To your post gibsonguy this kind of nonsense and crap is embraced by them fully, indoctrinating generation after generation into this “victim” mindset

“Poorest schools” has only a vague relationship to the money spent on the schools per student.

Chicago spends well above the state average, albeit with some higher costs. About 1/3 of the total spending goes to non-teaching costs including the building, but also including the staff and overseers.

Chicago’s average class of 25 costs $397k.

Yes, and it is not unusual for a teacher in the CPS to make over $100 K per year

I attended school there, in particular a very highly rated and selective admission one called Lane Tech. All of the teachers had worked in the field they taught, it was also a vocational school

More recently they scotched the shop classes and went into some computer stuff but it is still the best HS in the CPS system

So to your comment, I know a lot about both the model as well as the student population. Where I went we drew from across the city and our population covered every demographic.

CPS is a mess and they know it and do not care, just pay the Union Members and there is no passion for excellence anymore

The relationship is not vague as you posit, it is tangible

My point is that level of funding is not determinative of the level of education the students at a school receive. It is not wholly irrelevant, but it is at least the 4th or 5th item on the list - as is suggested by several points in your response.
