OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The death toll from COVID-19 jumped to 11 on Thursday with news that the passing of a 90-year-old woman was also linked to coronavirus. The update came a few hours after Gov. Jay Inslee said a state emergency declaration he issued will compel insurers to waive testing costs for those without their own private health care insurance.
Inslee and Snohomish County officials provided additional details on how their agencies are responding in the wake of a deadly coronavirus that is now linked to the deaths of 11 people and 70 total cases reported across the state.
At 2 p.m., several people with loved ones who received care from Life Care Center in Kirkland, the local epicenter for most of the COVID-19 cases in Washington, spoke out about the crisis.
During a Thursday morning press conference, state officials said:
The statewide death toll stands at 10, though it's now 11 as King County announced Thursday afternoon a new death in the county -- previously-reported case of a woman in her 90s being treated at EvergreenHealth Hospital.
70 cases statewide are now linked to COVID-19, up from 39 reported cases on Wednesday.
51 of those cases are in King County and 18 are in Snohomish County and one in Grant County.

Welcome to the epicenter.
Someone who is over 80 and frail will have a tough time beating this.
I know people who are over 80 and strong and people who are over 80 and frail.
My mother and aunt Fran would not survive this. I think my aunt Millie would.
She’s 81, mom’s 87 and Aunt Fran’s 86.
Aunt Millie still does Zumba :)
If you’re in Alabama you’re probably not concerned.
But we have a boatload of Freepers in the Puget Sound region who are over 60.
They are paying attention.
FYI
Would like to see a location scatter gram of these cases. Even by general locations
(municipality), their actual residences would remain private.
but I feel pretty good and still work.....
folks I have to tell you....we keep frail, sickly people alive by the skin of their teeth and no way would they be still alive 30 yrs ago, or even 20....
we shouldn't be surprised that a virus could just be the straw that broke the camels back...
sick people must stay away from the elderly, either when their home or in the hospital...its not cruel....its being caring...
and sick people must stay home, period....
Oh wow I didn’t know that.
I’m on staten island and while I don’t work in Manhattan anymore and I work on staten island overnight with only 6 of us here, I come into contact with a number of people who commute and this will spread more here.
Just how fast and how many there’s no way to know.
Prayers for the people this is affecting right now.
That list will grow. I hope not a lot.
Sure, whatever you say.
Publius, Billthedrill and Datura are 3 I am aware of near the epicenter.
And I’s sure Publius and Billthedrill are older than I am lol
Prayers to everyone in that region.
I had an email from an acquaintance of an old Lysol can saying it kills Human Corona virus.
Positive cases of COVID-19 have appeared in FL, GA, and TN. We are praying this eruption will burn itself out by mid-APR when the normal flu season typically winds down.
Also have several cans here.
I’m from there...and near enough...but my son and his family, grandkids, etc are at ground zero. Grandson’s girlfriend works next to the motel in Kent where they will be housing virus carriers...he says they will be able to leave anytime they want...waiting to find out more. Personally WE are most concerned about not getting ANY kind of virus or flu...At our age.
I didn’t say it, an author said it in 1981!
I’m sure your fellow incipient globalist tyrants can verify that!
On Tuesday I got my husband out of an assisted living in Bellevue. A year ago he was at LifeCare for rehab - lots of the long term residents there were in horrible shape already.
I am 60, while in good health, know many older people. One of two in 10 dying is not pleasant thought. Sobering.
I think you will be OK because you are smart enough to read these threads of Freerepublic and discern what you need to do.
Its all about discernment when we go though life.
Good discernment is best.
Prayers for all the elderly.
