Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Saturday declared a state of emergency in New York as officials seek to combat the spreading coronavirus.
Officials have reported 76 cases of coronavirus in New York, including 10 people who are currently hospitalized, the governor said.
New York has commissioned "hundreds" of tests for coronavirus and plans to push for many more, Cuomo said.
"I would test as many people as you can test, because you want to know," he said.
New York had previously reported 44 cases of coronavirus as of Friday, with 35 of those cases in Westchester County.
Dozens of people have been under mandatory quarantine, instead of self-isolation, as a precaution, officials have said.
"There's no doubt that massive quarantine is the best way to slow the spread," Cuomo said Saturday.

Finally Cuomo has met an enemy he can’t blame on Trump.
They are blaming it on Trump for his slow response to setting up testing, per Politico.

Quarantine is SMART for those who have come into immediate contact with someone who has it and of course for someone who has it
But cuomo spooks me and I think he could take this too far.
Of course they are because Trump is supposed to create these test kits out of his a@@ it takes time to develop them
This is about setting federal taxpayers up for a cash grab. NYS is billions in the hole. Guess who’s gonna make up for Albany’s profligacy?
Cuomo himself is a medical emergency.
It’s not just the kits. Those kids have to be processed. You need tests and people. Resources are finite. Using the kits indescriminately puts public health in greater danger.
Trump fairly gets some blame for the testing fiasco, as well as the incompleteness of the China flight shutdown and limited Italy halt, etc.
He’s still got time to do lots more good, but the look as at least mixed so far.
Just imagine this is March of 2012 and Obongo is the President now imagine what the “news” coverage would be.
.........but no state of emergency for all the people that die of the flu each year......proving this IS being used only as a political act

Yeah governor evil-eye. It’s a virus not unlike any flu. No biggie. It will pass through the population without about as much death and destruction as any other similar virus.
Geeeze such a fuss. This is not the Spanish flu by any stretch.
Just imagine if everyone who had the sniffles wanted to get tested for coronavirus, it would be INSANE..test kits should ONLY be issued to those who have a high fever and might have been exposed to someone with this virus
I wonder how many have died of flue - and without a state of emergency. But then, this is the only strain they can blame on Trump.
