Senate Republicans say they will not be rushed into accepting a House Democratic bill to provide paid sick leave and a variety of other safety-net aid to people affected by the coronavirus.
“I don’t think we ought to be stampeded into doing something that we wouldn’t otherwise think is a good idea. We need to respond in an appropriate way and in a targeted way, not just throw money at the problem,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
Cornyn said the House bill appears to be an effort by Democratic leaders to “score political points” by pressuring GOP lawmakers to accept an array of welfare spending that they know would be tough for conservatives to swallow.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are moving swiftly to try to reach a deal on a massive emergency aid package for Americans affected by the coronavirus, negotiating in dramatic fashion as Congress prepares to depart for a weeklong recess amid an intensifying national crisis." The Dems can't help themselves from dipping their hands into the pockets of the taxpayer funded US Government. Greedy Pelosi and her minions, using this virus as their hammer....never ever miss a chance to line their pockets.
Declare Martial Law - Suspend Congress
Do they have the backbone to resist the panic? I doubt they do.
Dems will try to insert all kinds of things knowing Mitch is under pressure. Mitch stood up when it came to Judges and Scalia. He needs to here.
*** BORK THE PORK ***
Dear Congress critters, READ the bill before you pass it. EVERY BILL!
We need to send these fu##ers all home, close it down, despicable scum
I’m so sick of them padding all the bills they push through Congress. The $8.3 (first bill) they pushed through the House had quite a bit of slush in it, to the point of being an ice storm. Yet they’ll refuse vote against amendments that would be truly helpful to the people, not only COVID-19 but every bill they pass. Whatever happened to the no more pork that passed when the Republicans had the House?
This is not a bill to handle Corvid-19. It is designed to fail so the Democrats can use its failing to attack the President. They really don’t care about Corvid-19 and the lives that are at risk at all.
It astonishes me at what the Democrats will do to try and slip things through. TDS.
I can’t believe someone like Pelosi would be so politically tone deaf that she’d actually let the House adjourn for a weeklong recess while all this is going on.
I would be very happy with singular national leadership for a period of time . Our system has devolved into a circus act. By despicable clowns .
the GOP needs to take out ads in every newspaper and every online news publication showing the language of what DEMS are throwing into this. WE NEVER FIGHT BACK
Democrats shouldn’t exploit this situation for agenda promotion!
Where’s the Senate GOP’s counter-bill?
They need to step up, and give Trump some of the stimulus he has asked for. Unless they WANT the economy to tank and Trump to lose.
“Democrats shouldn’t exploit this situation for agenda promotion!”
But Republicans should be giving Trump the economic stimulus he’s asking for. And they aren’t. GOP establishment is getting its revenge on Trump.
“WE NEVER FIGHT BACK”
Where’s the GOP bill? Trump asked for tax cuts to stimulate the economy - which is headed toward recession and a Democrat victory in Nov. But the GOP Senate is doing NOTHING. Do they WANT Trump to lose in November?
“I can’t believe someone like Pelosi would be so politically tone deaf”
It’s the GOP Senate that is tone deaf. They’re doing NOTHING. Trump asked for stimulus measures, including tax cuts. Mitch said, ‘let Pelosi handle it’
GOP Senate has backstabbed Trump for three years. Don’t be a sheeple and defend these donor-owned whores.
