BEIJING, March 9 (Reuters) - A Chinese company says it has developed the country's first facial recognition technology that can identify people when they are wearing a mask, as most are these days because of the coronavirus, and help in the fight against the disease.
China employs some of the world's most sophisticated systems of electronic surveillance, including facial recognition.
But the coronavirus, which emerged in Hubei province late last year, has resulted in almost everyone wearing a surgical mask outdoors in the hope of warding off the virus - posing a particular problem for surveillance.

US Tech giants assisted China with this evil AI computer mark of the beast wannabe surveillance beast
They already cant buy or sell in China if they don’t have the correct number (social media score)
Its coming to entire world one day not far into the future.
Welcome to skynet, my tin foil hat guess is that the Chinese have inner turmoil with their population, releasing the virus culls the heard of dissidents and the burden some old, gives them greater control and infects their enemies abroad namely the US especially since they hold 90 percent of our drug manufacturing. When the smoke clears I hope trump and his team hit them so hard their dead grandmother feels it
Assuming it’s true (because were I in charge of whatever Chinese security bureau, I would have my press announce sunglasses defeat it when they don’t), that tells me they were specifically targeting identification points on the upper face.
There is US and Euro facial ID software that doesn’t concentrate on the upper face alone, but can do upper, lower or both. The cutting edge of facial recognition software is reportedly only defeatable by a full face covering, such as a Guy Fawkes mask or a motorcycle helmet.
Actually, US facial recognition is better than this, and most facial recognition software is banned from export IIRC. See my post above.
