As toilet paper and hand sanitizer fly from store shelves, be certain to count something else in, as well: guns. Lots of guns.
According to one report, gun sales have dramatically increased.
And whats more, so have gun sales to first-time buyers.
Ive sold 12 handguns in two hours, Gabriel Vaughn of Sportmans Arms in Petaluma, California, told KTVU.
People that tell me that they dont like guns, but theyre here to begrudgingly buy one, Vaughn said. If it makes somebody feel safe, sure, and theyre legal to own one, then sure.
Ammunition sales are also spiking. According to Yahoo Finance, sales at Ammo.com are up by 68 percent. Alex Horsman, Ammo.coms marketing manager, knows why.
We know certain things impact ammo sales, mostly political events or economic instability when people feel their rights may end up infringed, Horsman said. But this is our first experience with a virus leading to such a boost in sales.
A lot of our customers like to be prepared. And for many of them, its not just face masks and Theraflu. Its knowing that no matter what happens, they can keep themselves and their families safe.

Visit your local shop this weekend. Buy something. American made ammo and gun products.
One needs to protect one’s hoard of TP from the hoards.
From my dead hands will they tear my TP from me.
Champaign IL is 30 square miles of blue surrounded by a sea of red. That idiot mayor can issue any decree she likes but none of them have any force of law behind the city limits.
Those southern IL rednecks could over run her town in 20 minutes.

I’d have to rearrange some TP if I do that. :-)
“hordes” apparently.
Here’s a novel idea:
These people rushing to buy firearms “grudgingly” - they should have to show their Voter Registration.
If Voter ID shows Democrat - One-month “cooling off period” - MANDATORY. Followed by NJ style intrusive background checks, local, county, and State police sign-off. After all, they wanted that stuff passed. Oh, and 7-round limit for ALL firearms. Plus, only ONE box of ammo per month.
If Voter ID shows GOP - “Here you go, sir/ma’am. NICS is clear. Have a nice day. Do you want that gift-wrapped? Oh, here’s an extra case of ammo at discount, for shopping with us.”
Thats a damned fine idea. I say we implement it immediately.
For the children.

Bad news. The Champaign mayor is a Republican, apparently. Non-partisan race there, but she has Republican history.
Dont really care what her party affiliation is. Her decree will have all the practical effect of a beer fart in a whirlwind.

Having invested the time and money to buy a weapon and ammo, the majority of these people will now take the time to become familiar with their new purchase, go to a range and practice.
Many of them will then realize that their original purchase of a single weapon it not adequate. That they really need a handgun, rifle, and shotgun, and oh, a .22cal rimfire rifle to practice with and train other members of their family.
All of which requires more ammunition and magazines.
Because they want to protect their investment, they will gradually become strict constitutionalists, especially as regards the Second Amendment.
Increasing gun ownership is one of the best ways to increase the population of constitutional conservatives while increasing our domestic economy.
Sounds like a plan to me.
Agreed. But still dangerous to have people around who think they can ignore the Constitution with impunity.
No argument here.

Remember when .22 ammo was all but impossible to find?
Ammo in general has been flying off the shelves too in addition to the new gun owners.
It is fun to see a busy range these days, what with old and young, men and women, paleo-Fudds and millenials... all out learning, training, generally being as polite as each one can manage. I am a senior, and I have a better time at a range now than I did 40 years ago; part of the reason is these new shooters who have opened their eyes and figured out that THEY are their own first line of defense. I enjoy answering their questions, encouraging them, checking out their new gun(s)... I am not big on unsolicited advice, but sometimes a safety issue needs addressing, and then I am more genial than I might have been in the past.
Yeah, some of them will be idiots, but there are some graybeards who aren't any better (and who have no excuse).
Law enforcement having a hissy soon as owning more than one gun is considered an arsenal and according to slo-joe you don’t need to be able to buy more than 100 rounds of ammo. Shux, they don’t realize you can hold a thousand rounds of rimfire in one hand with just 2 bricks. That would trigger a LEO panic and be in the newspaper as a terrorist in waiting. Willing to bet in regular red counties in the US that these stories of gun arsenals and ammo cache’s of over a hundred rounds bring out the’ hold my beer let me open my gun safe and give you a peek’ moment.
“The Champaign mayor is a Republican, apparently.”
She is a lefty. Pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQRSTUV, etc.
