Closed 11p to 6a? People who take their preschool children bawling through the store during those hours hardest hit!
No problem, seasonal flu always causes these global disruptions.
In order to limit my exposure to people, due to the fact I live with someone who is extremely vulnerable, I had planned to do my shopping then, as, I imagine, had many others.
Not to mention the reduced hours for already poor employees.
It would be better to limit the number of people who could be in the store at one time than to do this.
Is this all locations ? I was just in one before 6 and there were no signs of reduced hours. Walking fast may not help the virus but it does get steps in for the day.
I usually stop at Walmart on my way to work around 2AM. This starts Sunday night/Monday morning. I was able to go this morning, but I guess thats it for a while.
I work at Walmart. Decision was made last night and signs were printed. No employees in my store were told until someone saw the signs. It has been hell in the store I am at with people buying everything in sight. TP, wipes, alcohol, water, etc. Everything is gone off the shelves. Canned goods and frozen food too. Don’t even know why this was done. I can understand it if they chose to disinfect and/or restock shelves, but no body in my store was told why hours were cut. My store is a 6 AM to 12 AM store so we only get cut one hour. Maybe I’ll find out more info today!
Was at Wally-World last night. Workers were moving in pallets of replenishing food items into the aisles of the grocery dept. and shoppers were picking items off the pallets, disrupting-distracting the restocking of shelves by the workers. I believe this is the reasoning.
I’m in Jacksonville and several years ago a Walmart less than a mile from me used to be open 24 hours. Then this happened:

It’s been 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. ever since.
A friend who works at Walmart said they were going to close all entrances to the store but one, and they would take everyone’s temperature before being allowed in the store. If your temperature was over 99-something, you would be denied entrance. Also, truckers who deliver goods are not allowed in the store. Porta-potties will be available out back for them.
Walmart parking lots have become home to the homeless. Not one mention here in FR until mine of this fact. With those stores now operating from 6am to 11pm. Those stores washrooms will be unavailable to those parked there. Watch what develops.
They can’t maintain the stock, is the real reason. Why keep the store open all night when they are out of stock. 8>)
I am a CAP2 associate at the Portage MI Walmart and we had a short meeting about this last night. The past week has been absolute hell and the store and backroom are complete disasters. The daily GM truck which averages 2300-2400 cases, has been increased to 3000-3300 cases for the past week. As a result, there are about 100 pallets of product in the back which have not been stocked.
The change of hours is an attempt to restock and clean the store quicker. Also, all associates will be offered as much overtime that they want and the minors are now authorized to work 40 hours per week since all Michigan schools are closed. There simply aren’t enough employees at the store to keep up with the demand and this will help to rectify the situation.
Most importantly though and Walmart will never admit this publicly, is that many customers are complete a-holes. Some of them waste so much of the associates’ time that they can’t restock the shelves in a timely manner. Stocking and cleaning the store while it is closed can increase efficiency by a good 25%.
The local Walmart stopped the free curbside order pickup service because everybody and their Mother started using it because of the Coronavirus scare. They were overwhelmed.
Every store is cutting hours. Stores are closing early because of it. I just heard that someone stole a roll of Toilet paper from the women’s room of a Target last night. We were having dinner at a Ford Garage and we overheard the people next table from us about hearing a manager of Target saying that.
My local Public us starting to close at 8 pm each evening, starting tonight. Was there this morning. Everything seemed normal except sanitizer shelf.
