The Coronavirus Hoax
Ron Paul Institute ^ | Mar 16 2020 | Dr Ron Paul

Governments love crises because when the people are fearful they are more willing to give up freedoms for promises that the government will take care of them. After 9/11, for example, Americans accepted the near-total destruction of their civil liberties in the PATRIOT Act’s hollow promises of security.

It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.

Declaring a pandemic emergency on Friday, President Trump now claims the power to quarantine individuals suspected of being infected by the virus and, as Politico writes, “stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease.” He can even call out the military to cordon off a US city or state.

State and local authoritarians love panic as well. The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state.

The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.

"We don’t know that because we don’t know how large the infected population is."

We know with the same degree of certainty as we do with the flu so Apples to Apples comparisons are appropriate. Or do you think that everyone who gets the flu runs right to the doctor or reports to some government agency?

Flu may be under reported by as much as 100% in a mild strain year. Kids stay home from school because Mom thinks they have a cold, someone uses a sick day because of the sniffles, all that happens in mild years and it's not associated with the flu, just a cold.

Until there's widespread testing that 4% figure may be way below reality or way above but there's no reason to believe it's wildly out of whack. There aren't even enough test kits around to know whether someone just got a bad case of pneumonia or has this virus that led to the pneumonia. If it's fatal, their death certificate will say pneumonia, though, at least until any tissue they save is tested and numbers for COVID-19 are revised later.

Flu doesn't work like this to inhibit oxygen uptake in the blood cells so COVID-19 is absolutely more serious than the flu.

Serious potentially lethal effects not present in other strains of flu, someone can spread it for weeks before they even have symptoms, accurate tests not widely available to detect cases early, what part of that doesn't point toward a much higher fatality rate than "just the flu"?

What's done may well be an over reaction but without tests that find it early and extremely widespread testing we'd just be maximizing the number of people infected knowing people can be an infected a second time. Looking back at 1918 we know that flu was most lethal the second time through the population so there's that to consider, not just the immediate effects.

The idiot media is the idiot media but their encouraging panic doesn't mean there are no legitimate reasons for doing a lot more than shrugging this off.

swine flu infected nearly 61 million people in the United States and caused 12,469 deaths

That's a death rate of only .02%.

COVID-19's death rate is 3% overall. It's higher than the Spanish flu (2-3%).

So, if 61 million Americans caught COVID-19, there could be 1,830,0000 deaths.

And look at what happens when the hospitals are overwhelmed: Italy is suffering the most with a death rate about 7%.

There were over 2.8 million registered deaths in the U.S. in 2017. Perhaps a bit of perspective would have helped prevent this mad dash over the economic cliff.

I totally get it. “seeing the reality".

Good thread. Reminds me of the former days of FR

What's really interesting to me is this new phrase "social distancing"... I find it funny because if you compare things now to what they were 15 or 20 years ago, Our society has ALREADY socially distanced and many live in a socially distanced reality (no physical interactions) created by smart phones, apps, and lack of actually doing something real.

“ The ~0.1% case fatality rate of influenza is correct. It is not diluted by an unknowable number of cases that were never diagnosed.“

Not true. Flu is a nonreportable illness. That is why the CDC has to estimate. They estimate 25,000 - 55,000 flu deaths for 2019-2020. Or thereabouts.

Fauci appears to be eating up the attention in an unhealthy way. I hope I’m wrong about that.

I disagree with one item on your list of seventeen.

Re: “It is highly infectious.”

That does not appear to be the case in Washington state, which is the most infected state in the USA.

We have tested 12,500 people with known exposure or obvious symptoms.

Just 904 are infected. That is just a 7.2% infection rate for a high risk population group, which includes the nursing home where 29 people have died.

The coronavirus is approaching 4% fatality.

An unborn human faces about a 25% rate.

No one is immune, so without controls, the disease would just sweep through and kill millions.

According to our 'experts' that amount will STILL die; just be spread out over time.
