It’s an absolutely classic move of authoritarian governments (you know, like ones with massive internal spying) The classic move is that they are always screaming about some dire external threat to justify their depredations and policies against the will of the nation.

Saying something is a farce with nothing to back up your statement does not make it so.
I completely agree with you! Having followed the Coronavirus threads here for several weeks, I have sadly reached a few conclusions:
1 The love of liberty seems to be comatose and on life support in our formerly great country. I am saddened that in a community named Free Republic, that those who dare advocate for freedom during times of crisis are routinely flamed and ridiculed here.
2. The slave like blind trust in “expert opinions” and projections based on worst case scenarios, in the face of data analysis which would not pass muster in an undergraduate statistics course is distressing.
3.Our formerly great nation seems to no longer be the home of the brave, but rather the wellspring of cowardice. Are there no Patrick Henrys who can say
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
4. Have we reached a point where we prefer comfortable slavery to dangerous freedom? I fear that we have. Just remember that the liberties which are being stripped away at light speed will not be easily recovered.
