Illinois primary election updates: Polls open across Chicago amid concerns the coronavirus pandemic could affect turnout

Polls across Chicago opened Tuesday morning amid a cloud of concerns about how the coronavirus pandemic could affect voter turnout.

Days before Election Day, efforts to contain the virus escalated in Illinois with the announcement of schools temporarily shuttering and restaurants shifting to only take out or delivery services.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and the Cook County Clerk scrambled to find new election judges after many opted out of the role because of COVID-19. About 850 election judges, or about 10% of the people who had signed up for the role, told Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough’s office they wouldn’t show up for Election Day. On Monday, Chicago election officials anticipated a serious shortage of workers at city polls. Officials called on the young and healthy to fill in the gaps, and it’s possible an election judge could be sworn in on the spot.

If a polling place were to close, a worker will be stationed there to redirect voters. The pandemic had already caused the Chicago Board of Elections to relocate at least 50 polling places that had been previously scheduled to take place at nursing homes.

Illinois...the only state that will have a 103% voter turnout...in the middle of a pandemic.

Where is the: “Democrats want their supporters to die!” headline?

That was said just so they would be able to claim that the election was invalid in case the DEMS LOST.
If the dems won, there would be not a word of dissent.

Heh. That would be fun if he actually affected the outcome and Trump won the IL RAT primary as a write-in, but here's what will happen under Illinois election law:

The touchscreen machine will simply ignore the vote since the name doesn't match any of the names on the list of Qualified Write-In Candidates who filed a form to run as a write-in. The paper ballot machine will flag the vote and put it in a pile of ballots where voters cast write-in votes. The election judges check it at the end of the day and since the name "Donald J Trump" is not on the list of people who filed paperwork to run in a write-in campaign, they will also not the record the vote. The result will be that if the final numbers were 952-Donald J. Trump (write-in), 870-Joe Biden, 755-Bernie Sanders... the official tally reported by the pct. will be 870-Joe Biden, 755-Bernie Sanders, 0-Donald J. Trump.

Interesting trivia: In 2004, I tried to cast a write-in vote for Tom Tancredo in the GOP primary for President.

Never mind that holding the primary now will increase the spread of the coronavirus at a time critical to slowing it down...

That makes little sense.

Votes to non registered write ins don’t even count. So you might as well write in “Dick Nixon” as Trump if all you want to do is mess with poll workers who might be risking their health to staff this election.
