DARE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Dare County says it is keeping visitors out due to concerns with the coronavirus.
While the county says they have had no cases of the pandemic yet, they made the decision to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Checkpoints were set up at 2:00 p.m. at entry points into the county, and no visitors will be allowed.
Dare County says only permanent residents, non-resident property owners and non-resident employees of businesses within the county will be allowed.
Those with valid driver's license with a Dare or Currituck county address or a government-issued ID card with a local address will be allowed in the county.
Non-resident property owners can use a current tax bill, while non-resident employees can use a pay stub or an employee ID badge, all with a matching current government-issued ID.
The county also says visitors will not be able to use Dare County to access Corolla, Ocracoke Island or Tyrrell County. Those who live, own property or work in Corolla or Ocracoke will be allowed entry, the news release says.

This is how they do it in countries with internal passports for population control. Except, there’s no good reason to do it there except for control by the government, and its chronic rather than acute.
In 1967, I was sitting in front of a little black and white TV and they flashed some scenes of the Newark riots on the news. I said, “Hey, that tank looks like its on Springfield Avenue!”
It was. And my parents told me they had to go through police checkpoints and show their licenses to get home after a driving vacation.

In such countries it is the central government doing it, and not the local sheriff acting on behalf of the local government. That’s a huge difference.
We vacation in the OBX several times every year for the past 20 years. Friend of mine owns 2 houses in Duck and Corolla so he’ll go this weekend. This blows because I was planning a trip for this weekend at the Hilton OBX. Great time of year to go.
Too funny. My girlfriend just called from Myrtle Beach. All the restaurants are closed. She still plans on sticking it out till Friday
