An Open Data Clinical Trial for COVID-19 Prevention

________

BREAKING UPDATE: Clinical trial by Gautret, Raoult, et al. (2020)

What is this initiative?

We're an independent group of scientists and physicians working on an open-data clinical trial for prevention of COVID-19, through the use of hydroxychloroquine in combination with other therapeutic agents.

Unlike a typical commercial drug trial, our objective is to share trial data with the public* and health-care professionals as close to real-time as possible (with a reasonable level of data quality assurance).

Given the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic, we're looking for every possible means to fast-track the effort.

_______________

How can I participate in the trial?

Objective: Evaluate the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in the prevention of COVID-19 infection.

Current Phase: We're first focusing on a cohort study of healthy medical professionals.

Status: Active / Recruiting

Join the study: If you're a front-line healthcare worker (physician, nurse, etc.), and willing to participate in the trial (or already taking hydroxychloroquine), please send us an email.

Future phase: Case-control study of hydroxychloroquine in the prevention of COVID-19. Stay tuned.

I heard about this on Mark Levin last night on the radio. Also saw it at the end of Tucker Carlson's show last evening.

These folks may be on to something, and I believe The President should know about this.

I suspect he knows about this.

I could hardly sleep last night thinking about this!.......Praying for a breakthrough!

Don’t. Notice he has yet to say just which patients they studied. On vents? Asymptomatic? Seriously ill? If they only studied “asymptomatic” people and half on average had had the illness for several days I would expect half of those studied to have cleared the virus in a week if they received nothing. Tucker was probably right to be skeptical.

When people are vague on the details, ignore them.

Except for the people who say it’s a media hoax and that spring breakers should live their lives. They have nothing to pray against.

We all are but something tells me this ain’t it. If he was for real he would have started out with “We studied x number of people who were mildly ill and over the following x number of days none of them progressed.” Notice he specifically did not say anything like that. Instead he started out with “We have discovered a 100% cure”

I’m calling BS on this one.

Personally, I saw no "skepticism" last night from Tucker. He actually seemed properly enthusiastic.

If Chloroquine or HCQ is “the cure” we had better hope they find a better one quickly. The Army discovered that when they gave theses drugs to tens of thousands of soldiers there was a mysterious outbreak of murder/suicide.

The way I read it, the trial is for the actual health workers to take the drug themselves and see if that prevents acquiring the virus in a statistically significant manner. If that works it keeps for providers online. Also we could see people both asymptomatic and virus clear, taking it to prevent new cases. Other folks are looking at it as treatment for active cases.
These are already drugs on the market. This is just an ‘off-label’ prescription. No need for phase I, safety and side effects already known. Will be interesting to see.

“These folks may be on to something, and I believe The President should know about this.”

The President DOES know about this; everybody knows about this. He was standing next to Dr. Birx at the briefing yesterday when it was brought up.

Hydroxychloroquine has been known to work for a few weeks, yet the government continues to throw billions of $$ to big pharma to invent something that will work — re-invent the wheel.

When Fox’s John Roberts asked Dr. Birx about it in yesterday’s press briefing, she was dismissive and spewed some bafflegab about even if it works in test tubes we don’t know if it works in humans. Basically, she pooh-poohed the idea. Although, we DO know it works in humans in many instances.

I wonder what kind of monetary arrangement they have with big pharma CEOs to underplay this treatment, even though the panic is destroying the economy for normal people.

Something has to be done to calm the hysteria and get our country back to normal. The crash may take down Trump — which is the plan — but it’s taking down everyone and everything. I wonder if the MSM considered all the unintended consequences when they started this hoax.

Yes, but there is a ton of background research on this as a possible approach.

There are decades of history from Americans, and others using this drug.

There is the maps (global) showing an almost perfect match between Coronavirus infections, vs. the use of this for Malaria treatment. Virtually a perfect match, except reversed...

Where there is strong use of this drug as an anti-malarial drug, there is NOT currently an outbreak of Coronavirus. Where there is not a history of using this drug, there is significant current infection.

Virtually a perfect match.

And (apparently) China is about to report a good match, in their research, with actually apparently, solving cases successfully. If I understood that portion of the news, correctly?

I am very intrigued by this news.

I have attached a link below for a successful trial on Hydroxychloroquine. There is also another drug that works well in fighting the virus and it is called Rimdesivir. It was developed by Gilead Sciences during the last Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak a couple years ago. Both of these drugs have completely eliminated the virus in lab settinge and in human trials.

These two drugs are being put through clinical trials already and they should be available much sooner than we thought possible if we had to develop a new antiviral compound to fight this new strain of coronavirus.

Not so incidentally, virologist say there are two different variants (strains) of SARS-CoV-2 they have identified so far, “S” and “L”. Some virologists that are studying the virus are claiming that the “L” variant, a downstream mutation, is less deadly than the “S” variant but that has not been conclusively determined.

It does appear that what’s going around in in the United States is not nearly as deadly as what has been infecting the Chinese and the Italians. Let’s hope that is the case.

Lastly, people that study epidemics and pandemics believe that up to 86% to 88% of coronavirus cases have gone undiagnosed. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that we have had at least one variant of SARS-CoV-2 in the United States since October or November of last year. If true, that means the mortality rate for the virus is a factor of six to seven times less deadly then the numbers that are being published.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been estimating the mortality rate to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.5%. if the above case is true... and there are many more cases than have been confirmed, the real mortality rate number may be in the neighborhood of a half-a-percent to less... which is not great news but one hell of a lot better than 3.5 out of a hundred cases being lethal.

Anyway, there is hope this thing is going to get better sooner rather than later. We will see.

This is a PROSPECTIVE study - it hasn’t taken place yet. Looks like they want first responders and clinicians to take the drug and then monitor the number who get infected. No mention of the control group - Im going to assume its those who do not volunteer to take the drug. In any case these studies are really hard to derive ANY useful data. I’m going to suspect this guy is preening for some attention.
