Preppers, once mocked, say they were ready for coronavirus crisis
Fox News ^ | March 19 2020 | David Aaro

Across the U.S., "preppers" have been planning for an event like the coronavirus for years.

Now, as a run-on toilet paper and necessary supplies have created vast lines and panic in our nation's supermarkets and stores, some are able to sit back and relax -- while being humble enough to avoid "I told you so."

“We're not laughing. We're not saying, ‘I told you so,' when people are out there fighting over toilet paper and hand sanitizers,” said Ohio resident Paul Buescher.

I haven’t bought a paper product since this whole thing started, am good for probably at least 2 months. Haven’t rushed to the gun store for guns or ammo, either. Bought some food, already had a lot in the pantry.

I’m far from being a prepper but just the way I buy stuff had me prepared. I never buy just 1 of anything. If canned veggies are on sale I’ll buy a whole flat. I make a tp and paper towel run every once in awhile and stack them in the garage simply because I don’t like to think about it. I’ll buy 15-20 of the 12 double roll packs of tp all at once. Hubby is a huge meat eater so the freezer is always stacked with meat. Because of the way I shop we were waaaaay more prepared than most. I have to host bunco next week at my house and joked with the girls that I was giving tp out as the gifts. lol

Listen, Travis, that’s a great suit! I will let you go pick up my prescriptions from Walmart in that!

Don't advertise that you are a prepper and are well stocked for this event. It only makes you a target if things really go to hell in a handbasket...

Heard a local story about a woman robbed of her groceries in the store parking lot. Know of another one had just got her CCW and thwarted a car-jecking / robbery attempt while in her car. This stuff doesn't happen around here, but is starting. The pandemic is affecting brains too....

I’ve gone to the store for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and fish, accessing the risks from the beginning. This weekend marks the first that I will not, but I will still get fresh food. Toilet paper? Sheryl Crow taught me about that one - Not. I’m wasn’t going into the TP aisle at the store for fear I would have to use my weapon when they brought out palates of TP to the aisle. (Hyperbole, folks) Ammo, check. I reload. Prepper craft, check. I have plenty. It makes plenty of sense to prep, very little to hoard.

Wife and I have done some mild prepping over the last 5-10 years, so all we needed to do was our regular shopping and load some extra magazines for when the looting phase of the panic starts. Food, paper products, cleaning supplies, etc were taken care of years ago.

"It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine."

And just to lighten the tone: "I got everything I need almost, but I don't have you...and you're the thing I need the most."

I haven't needed to buy anything since this hysteria got started. I may need more pasta in a couple of weeks.

I'm not a prepper, but I got caught with my pants down during Sandy and I'll never let that happen to my family again.

I saw an article somewhere the other day. Gloom/doom merchant who said that even if you have a "good supply" of toilet paper and paper towels etc. on hand, you probably don't have enough and YOU WILL BE SORRY.

Guy just threw out the "fact" that "the average" American uses a roll of toilet paper a day (two people/two rolls, etc.) and most people don't have a sufficient supply on hand.

That average seems a little high to me.

The problem with our Liberal friends is they know so much that isn’t so.

There is a lot of "I am not a prepper, but... denial on this thread.

The Media has worked hard to demonize those who think ahead, study history, learn from the mistakes of others...

The Media did the same with the survivalist movement.

I always thought everyone wanted to survive. But some do not like to be reminded of their vulnerability.

They hate having their mortality pointed out.

Being prepared is not just an American virtue, it is a human virtue.

It has been hard for me to resist telling people who I warned about this MONTHS ago “I told you so”. I am not humble lol.

It has been laughable watching the videos of freaks running through the aisles, fighting over TP and pushing carts and carts of it out the door.

I wonder if they have come up with a way of eating it?

That average seems a little high to me.

Completely debunked. It is closer to a "roll" every two weeks.

The idea came from a dubious "study" which looked at the total amount of paper produced, and an absurdly low weight for a toilet paper roll.
