I have routinely kept a two-month supply of non-perishable or long shelf life goods. I’ve been doing it for years.

I have a large freezer so I can buy frozen items in bulk.

I have a generator and know how to backfeed the house. I have a 6 month supply of propane for my grill and a camping lantern and stove.

Does this make me a prepper?

I am a “mild” prepper. Always keep a few bushels of wheat (energy) and raw soybeans(complete protein) locked up in 5 gallon buckets.

Im glad my liberal non gun owning neighbors have finally started stockpiling apocalyptic food rations for me at their house for when it gets really bad.

Don’t advertise that you are a prepper and are well stocked for this event.

Prep Club is like Fight Club :-)

Sad that so many didn’t see this coming, and plan, accordingly.

I hate going to the grocery store. Always have. So I figure the more I buy the less trips to the grocery store. lol

"It only makes you a target if things really go to hell in a handbasket..."

An odd mindset has set in - I'm working from home at my dining room table - with my handgun next to my laptop.
I've never "carried" in my own house before.

“It has been laughable watching the videos of freaks running through the aisles . . . “

I don’t think they’re freaks. Just regular people trying to adjust to a situation they never thought would happen and not doing it very gracefully.

My inlaws live in Idaho (CA transplants) and have been laughing at my wife and I for 2 months as we tell them to get ready. They really do think its a democrat hoax to defeat Trump.

When asked about the people dying in China, Italy, Iran, and Spain, FIL says, “they are 3rd world shitholes”. We just shake our head and keep going on. Wife is pretty upset. Her sister lives in ID next to parents and is trying to tell them too.

Anyways, fast forward to yesterday. They drive to Costco and its empty. They drive an hour the other way to Sandpoint...Canadians came in and got everything. Now they are scared. FIL still thinks people are over reacting and this will all blow over NEXT WEEK.
Its amazing how dense some people can be.

This event is proving the entire just-in-time production model’s flaws - especially when combined with an international supply chain.

I support a small business that relies on a mix of domestic and international suppliers. I’d always advocated maintaining inventory on the moderately high side to handle peak orders without delays.

Now shipping from China is at a standstill till early April, and who knows how long it can take to get anything?

We have 2 months of most items in storage, and we’re still shipping. The only limit is when additional assembly labor is required, because a lot of people are home.

I argued with the boss previously about ordering parts from more expensive suppliers in Illinois and New York rather than China, given tariffs and trade wars. Yesterday, I was ordering from them to get parts, period.

This is going to force everyone to buy American more often though a lot of cheap goods will be sourced from Mexico and Central America. And having a 1-3 month supply is going to become routine for businesses.

We’re not hard preppers, but we are definitely Dave Ramsey fans. We were made fun of for living off way less than we made.

Here comes the coronavirus. I’m at home with the kids whose school is trying to move virtual. Productivity halved, so pay is halved. Spouse is still working.

What I really appreciate right now is that six month emergency fund. If my husband were furloughed, it is an annoyance, not a disaster. And we’re certainly spared the panic of people who can’t pay the mortgage if not paid this week.

I went to the store yesterday. It was interesting to see most of the vegan stuff untouched. Bananas and most other fruit were gone, but green leafy vegetables and pineapples were there.

I’m with you. I hate to shop so I always buy toilet paper and paper towels from Costco in those huge packages. I have a freezer full of that weird stuff they sell that I decided to buy and then hated. So, I’m good.

“Normalcy bias” at work in the aisles of American grocery and big box stores!

Yep, this was not a shock to anybody paying attention.

Instead of sitting on your duff, you should have been

gathering stuff.

I haven’t bought a paper product since this whole thing started, am good for probably at least 2 months. Haven’t rushed to the gun store for guns or ammo, either. Bought some food, already had a lot in the pantry.

Same here. There's a rush on ammo orders from the unprepared, so prices are currently way up, and a lot of stuff is out of stock.
