national defense authorization act (amendments to which were discussed here repeatedly with just how all-powerful they declared the fedgov) probably allow this and pretty much anything else. folks can argue constitutionality, but they passed the law.

i recall debating one obama-era provision that allowed the feds to mandate that you work with our without pay at a job they picked, iirc (going from memory).
