The U.S. Army has awarded $524 million to Southwest Valley Constructors for design and build of a section of wall along the U.S. Mexico border, the Department of Defense announced.

The deal modifies an earlier contract, originally awarded in May 2019, for design build replacing the section of the wall near Tucson, Ariz...

The project has an estimated completion date of Sept. 7, 2021.

Based on the cost, this is probably over 25 more miles of new Border Wall System for Arizona (Tucson Sector), that was just awarded on contract.

This more than half a billion dollar "modification", is almost as much as the base contract itself (which was $646 mil).

I think we are seeing one of the fruits of the Administration's recent waiving of procurement requirements for the border wall system. Rather than running another lengthy bid process for this segment, with the additional delays required for it, and the months needed for a new awardee to start work, they will just have the company that is already set up, scale up and keep building in the same area.

Costs are well understood at this point, so the risk of excessive payment in a sole source award is mitigated. Prices can be based on recent competitions of very similar work.

The original contract was funded with last year’s Counter-Narcotics funding from DoD.

Although it was not stated, I would expect that this mod is funded from this year’s Military Counter-Narcotics funds, which were authorized by the Secretary of Defense for use about a month ago.

Rock On!

Trump is amazing as he can handle [through delegation after decision] a yuge number of issues simultaneously.

It’s a lovely thing to see.

President Trump builds efficiently, not politically. Other federal projects were chopped into fifty pieces. so that donors in every state got a piece of the pie, and all 50 had their built-in cost overruns that ballooned the price and slowed the project.
President Trump is the best president ever at getting the job done. How many hundreds of billions has Congress wasted during past administrations? A question that must be asked of Biden, or his replacement: What will you do with the border wall that has been built?
