A grocery store in Pennsylvania says it was forced to trash an estimated $35,000 in produce and other items Wednesday after a customer coughed all over them amid growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

The woman came into Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township around 2:20 p.m. and "proceeded to purposely cough" on the store's fresh produce as well as a small section of its bakery, meat case, and grocery shelves, according to the store's co-owner Joe Fasula.

He described it as a "twisted prank."

If the locals really cared, they’d do something about it.

Yep he’s rightly on the hook for that much, plus
He should be doing some mandatory community service for the wasted time he’s given a bunch of people.

Sad but absurd. Aside from the bakery products, the rest could have been submerged in a vat of 3% hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes (use gloves) which inactivates the virus and then at sold at discount as sanitized or given away. They would be safer then the normal unwashed items.

Good idea but I doubt anyone would take the stuff for free if they knew.

Would you?

Suppose they didn’t leave it in for 3 minutes, or took it out and laid it mistakenly on the contaminated counter?

Not worth the risk to say a few bucks.

The moron woman who did this needs to pay for the full retail price of what was destroyed and a hefty fine and community service. A year of probation would be good as well

Might have been ‘a prank’ but customers would feel better shopping at stores that CHECK TEMPS before allowing customers in the store.

Keeps customers alive and happy AND keeps employees alive. A twofer if ever there was one.

If restaurants do the same people will start eating out again - well, once this shelter in home thing is over.
