The denominator is dead/dead+recovered(or closed cases). As more recover than die, we will see the mortality rate drop. The closed case number is a lagging number but already in Italy the recovering are edging out the dead. Our recovered cases in the US are 1800 vs 1000dead. If 500,000 have been tested and only 82000 are positive then 418000 are negative. That is 83.6 percent negative when tested across the US. Many states are in the low to mid 90’s percents in terms of negative tests when tested. NYC really skews the results right now.

The Chinese statistics are completely bogus (even they admit they didn’t count those infected, but not showing serious symptoms — the largest category of cases).
Country-to-country statistics are completely bogus — but, that’s all you’ll ever see in the MSM, because they make the USA look bad vs. small European nations. The only valid measure is cases/people — e.g. cases/million people.

Hardly “solid” - but I wouldn’t dismiss them either. They have massive, massive surveillance in that country — I work with Big Data and AI — and China has tons of that. If you walk out, to get out of buildings, into trains etc they scan your face, ID etc. They have cameras tracking your movement.
And WeChat/AliPay accounts for most transactions - in many places those are the ONLY options to pay, so you are tracked again.
If they want to lock down a city airtight, they can - it is a police state at the end of the day

I wonder what the state-by-state ranking by cases/million looks like. Those states with very low rates should be able to get back to a semblance of normalcy sooner than the ones with much higher rates (NY, WA, CA).
