IF chloroquine has been downplayed for off-label treatment, the potential for high dose Vitamin C, especially intravenous has been even more ignored and even suppressed. Someone commented that chloroquine was cheap like Vitamin C so drug companies would not make money either way. I checked on price and found the low price GoodRX was $75.00 for 30 500mg pills. Other companies were charging $300 to $600. On the other hand with Vitamin C tablets ranging from 5 to 10 cents per 500mg., they would be $1.50 to $3.00.

It sounds like chloroquine has a role in enabling zinc to enter cells and stop the disease process. That would explain why taking higher doses of zinc has also seemed to help. Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties which would explain why in high doses it can reverse the deadly cytokine storms of the acute respiratory end stage syndrome. It also seems that higher doses of Vitamin D can also help. Oh, the poor pharmaceutical industry, now they seem to have so much more cheap competition. Maybe they will have to stop paying their CEOs and other top executives those $20million salaries.

Why would any drug company want to run randomized double blind studies on vitamins or off patent lower cost drugs. No money in it, it only might save lives. Why bother.

I wonder if that high death toll of flu last winter in the US (80,000 versus a typical 20 or 30 thousand) was caused by early cases of Covid-19. It seemed that there were positive tests in our upper northwest of people who had been sick back in December.

I think you have to be loaded up on D3 BEFORE you contract the virus. And you need to be taking it with K2.

Since my son in Special Forces told me he had been advised to take 5000 IU of D, I have added from 2000 to 4000 IU daily. I had been taking K2 but ran out, so better get some more. For over 45 years I have been taking 3 to 6 grams Vitamin C spread thruout the day for my allergies. Dose varied depending on symptoms of clogged nasal passages and sneezing. If I start housecleaning (house dust is one allergy) and my symptoms start, I immediately take 1 or 2 grams and they go away soon. At 81 I am in good health and hope to remain that way.

It sounds like you might find the links below of interest. Using information I gained by reading Klenner’s work with high Vitamin C, referenced in Cathcart’s link, I may have saved a woman’s life.

Dr. Cathcart (see first link) has treated 9,000 patients with high C doses over 10 years. For a person with some medical knowledge, this link has useable details on how to treat at home with high Vitamin C doses, if hospital is not available. I have also found that when I used or gave to family high doses with fever, the fever would always drop 2 degrees in a half hour. Vitamin D has also been found helpful. I now take 2000 to 5000 IU of D depending on the season. This is in addition to the 3 to 6 grams of C I take daily for my allergies. You can also demand that the hospital treat you or your loved one with the intravenous form of C, and have your lawyer on call if they object.
http://www.doctoryourself.com/titration.html [Long and very detailed. If intravenous is not available, crush C and drink in water]

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04264533 [This official NIH site reports on the Chinese high Vitamin trial(s?) being run in China. A detailed explanation of other tests of high C that showed conflicted or confusing or weak results can be answered by reading the link above.]

https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/new-york-hospitals-treating-coronavirus-patients-with-vitamin-c/
[New York is the first area I have seen reported on that is now exploring the value of high Vitamin C in saving Covid-19 case lives. What they consider high dose may not come close to Dr. Cathcart’s experiences.]

As to saving a woman’s life? Here is the story. I was volunteering at a MASH tent for a large wilderness campout. When I showed up for my volunteer stint, they were trying to help a woman who had been stung by 3 yellow jackets in the neck (she had forgotten her bee sting allergy kit). Her eyes were swollen shut, she was choking and gasping, and her body was swollen all over. They had been giving her an herbal “rescue remedy” and it was NOT working. I immediately crushed 10 grams of Vitamin C, mixed it in a glass of water and had her drink it all. In 20 minutes her eyes were open, she had stopped choking, and the body was less swollen. I spent the next 8 hours with her giving 5 grams C per hour. Finally she said she felt better and thought she could sleep. I left her with a small bottle of C to take as she felt she needed. She hiked out 3 miles the next day. She never had the bowel tolerance symptom of excess taking a total of 50 grams in 8 hours. Klenner’s experience was with spider and snake poison.

I have never claimed to be a pulmoologist. And you could not even read the conclusion to the cell study to which you were pinged. Go have more drinky, happy.

H1N1 is influenza, not coronavirus. However, there are some indications that chloroquine could be an important anti-viral in general.

Indeed! gas-dr has made a keen observation regarding prophylaxis for hydroxyxhloroquine. Why not do an immediate study btaking some region and dosing all of a certain class, say healthcare workers, as a prophylazis and see who it protects?

“...three patients...”. “...can help...”. We have the information to do better? Where is it? Some billionaire hasn’t dumped his 5 tons yet so we can’t know?

The CDC has known since 2005 that lab results on hydroxychloroquine indicated it was not only a very effective treatment for Coronavirus, but also would prevent people from contracting the SARS virus. . .

. . . inhibiting the infection and spread of SARS CoV in cell culture.

Totally misleading headline. NO ONE knew it was "very effective" because the 2 diseases SARS and MERS fizzled out before anyone could try it in humans in any meaningful way. Cell Culture studies, mouse studies, animal studies are a far cry from human studies. It wasn't until a French researcher published a small open-label study that we had any evidence that this might work in humans and more importantly that it didn't act synergistically with the virus to kill you faster.

SARS: Systematic Review of Treatment Effects (2006)
In the editors summary for this SARS-1 review in 2006 it states: "Some of the in vitro studies with the antiviral drugs found that a particular drug reduced the reproduction rate of the viruses, but most of the studies of these drugs in patients were inconclusive." (emphasis mine).

There is a prophetic part of the editor's summary where they lament that research stopped on this virus and that further research and human trials would have been nice because "While the systematic review suggests that we do not know which if any of the potential treatments against SARS are effective, its recommendations mean that researchers should at least be better prepared to learn from potential future outbreaks."

So there is no conspiracy. There was no vast knowledge that is being suppressed. We have incomplete knowledge because the disease went away before a good treatment could be found. While we all complain about Dr. Fauci (myself included), hydroxychloroquine is used in immune suppression for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. It took a brave researcher to try this medication and it can't be just any researcher. The system is set up so that a specialist in clinical trials or infectious disease (in this case) would have to approach their clinical trial committee and convince them to allow the trial. If the medication had been harmful it probably would have damaged his reputation trying an anti-rheumatoid arthritis medication against a viral illness.

In a real sense the world lucked out on this.

“Imagine if it was meant only to be used by the elites and ‘dummy Trump’ let the secret out of the bag. Hence the executive orders by Dem Governors.”

I suspect that is exactly what happened!
