If hydroxychloroquine is a antimalarial medication, why are they prescribing it to people with autoimmune disease like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis?

For money, perhaps?

No, ‘they’ found that it helps alleviate symptoms in these ‘off-registry’ conditions, you know those anecdotal results Fauci wants you to ignore.

Because it works by an inherent mechanism that stifles autoimmune response as well as viral reproduction. The fact that Plasmodium (malaria) is susceptible to the medicinal properties of quinine does not negate its efficacy, even by different mechanisms, against other diseases.

Some drugs help more than one category of disease. Antimalarials were empirically discovered to have side benefits for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus back in the 50s.
