Week ending 21 March 2020 - USA - "155 influenza-associated deaths in children have been reported so far this season. This number is higher than recorded at the same time in every season since reporting began in 2004-05, except for the 2009 pandemic."

Sorry, these people’s lives don’t count because they can’t be weaponized against Trump.
“155 influenza-associated deaths in children have been reported so far this season”
Does the CDC’s influenza category include the Corona virus?
Bottom line . . . Looks like 24,000 died of regular flu . . 2,400 from China flu. Is this correct?
Oh, so it ends today at 2400?
No.
The weekly report tests for “seasonal” influenza, which is what you get a flu shot for.
COVID-19 causes an “Influenza Like Illness” (ILI), but I do not think it is officially classified as influenza.
No. But neither does season flu end today.
Comparing a season that’s over, static, to something ongoing, which is dynamic.
“Fauci says US could see up to 200,000 coronavirus deaths, millions infected”

Cute chart, Danny.
You compare the 32 week fatality arc of seasonal influenza to the 4 week arc of COVID-19.
The current minimum estimate for 2019-2020 seasonal flu deaths is 24,000. Highest CDC estimate - 62,000.
Get back to me in 8 weeks - when seasonal flu and COVID-19 go to almost zero weekly deaths - and we can compare the final death toll.
We can cut COVID-19 deaths by 90% if we isolate elderly and infirm Americans.
We do not need to destroy the American economy and our standard of living to contain COVID-19.
No children’s deaths have been reported by the world ending Armageddon Chinese flu.
All childhood deaths and the rest of the almost 35,000 who have died here from the seasonal flu are not important because it’s not something the media can know exploit.
A week later, Fauci said COVID-19 might kill millions.
Today, he says 200,000.
Why does anyone listen to that man?
The Illinois Department of Public Health said it’s the first coronavirus-related death of a child under one year of age in the United States.

I think people listen because he’s been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for the last 36 years and he’s responding to an evolving public health crisis as new information becomes available every hour of every day.

You are referring to the chart, right? I did not post that.
24,000 is the lowest CDC estimate for 2019-2020 influenza. CDC highest influenza estimate is 62,000. As I type this, the death toll for COVID-19 is almost 2,400.

The chart line for COVID-19 starts with the first documented USA death, four weeks ago.
For all we know, COVID-19 has been circulating in the USA for many weeks, or even months, but did not show up because of no deaths or very few deaths.
It can NOT include covid-19 under influenza category. Covid-19 is not from the “flu” family of viruses. It is closer to H1N1 virus and the cold virus.
Covid-19 might ruin the American economy (which is envy of the entire world) but it may flatten the curve of chronic shortfalls in Social Security & Medicare.
I’m hopeful it does neither.
It was going to put a dent in our economy whether we did nothing or something.
