~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Beale Air Force Base, California

CAbeale1

Beale Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located approximately 8 miles east of Marysville, California.

The host unit at Beale is the 9th Reconnaissance Wing (9 RW) assigned to the Air Combat Command and part of Sixteenth Air Force. The 9 RW collects intelligence essential for Presidential and Congressional decisions critical to the national defense.

To accomplish this mission, the wing is equipped with the nation's fleet of U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft and associated support equipment. The wing also maintains a high state of readiness in its combat support and combat service support forces for potential deployment in response to theater contingencies.

The U-2S is a single-seat, single-engine, high-altitude/near space reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft providing signals, imagery, and electronic measurements and signature intelligence, or MASINT. Long and narrow wings give the U-2 glider-like characteristics and allow it to quickly lift heavy sensor payloads to unmatched altitudes, keeping them there for extended periods of time.

The U-2 is capable of gathering a variety of imagery, including multi-spectral electro-optic, infrared, and synthetic aperture radar products which can be stored or sent to ground exploitation centers. In addition, it also supports high-resolution, broad-area synoptic coverage provided by the optical bar camera producing traditional film products which are developed and analyzed after landing.

CAbeale5

Global Hawk is currently fielded in three distinct blocks. Seven Block 10 aircraft were procured, but were retired from the Air Force inventory in 2011. Block 20s were initially fielded with IMINT-only capabilities, but three Block 20s have been converted to an EQ-4 communication relay configuration, carrying the Battlefield Airborne Communication Node (BACN) payload. Block 30 is a multi-intelligence platform that simultaneously carries electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and high and low band SIGINT sensors.

CAbeale4

PAVE Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) Radars are maintained by the Air Force. These radars are capable of detecting Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) attacks and conducting general space surveillance and satellite tracking. PAVE is a military program identification code.

The PAVE PAWS are ground based phased array radars located on the United States west and east coast.

Missile warning and attack characterization data is sent to the U.S. Missile Warning and Space Control Centers, the U.S. National Military Command Center and U.S. Strategic Command. Satellite tracking data is sent to the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) for processing.

One of the PAVE PAWS Radars has been modified to support the Missile Defense mission. Both systems are operated by U.S. and Canadian personnel. One of the PAVE PAWS has a co-primary mission to provide missile tracking data to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) GMD Fire Control Center (GFC/C) while simultaneously providing Missile Warning Data to the Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) system.

Inheritance Isn’t Earned

Bible in a Year:

He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

Ephesians 1:5

“Thanks for dinner, Dad,” I said as I set my napkin on the restaurant table. I was home on a break from college and, after being gone for a while, it felt strange to have my parents pay for me. “You’re welcome, Julie,” my dad replied, “but you don’t have to thank me for everything all the time. I know you’ve been off on your own, but you’re still my daughter and a part of the family.” I smiled. “Thanks, Dad.”

In my family, I haven’t done anything to earn my parents’ love or what they do for me. But my dad’s comment reminds me that I haven’t done anything to deserve to be a part of God’s family either.

In the book of Ephesians, Paul tells his readers that God chose them “to be holy and blameless in his sight” (1:4), or to stand without blemish before Him (5:25–27). But this is only possible through Jesus, in whom “we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (1:7). We don’t have to earn God’s grace, forgiveness, or entrance into His family. We simply accept His free gift.

When we turn our lives over to Jesus, we become children of God, which means we receive eternal life and have an inheritance waiting for us in heaven. Praise God for offering such a wonderful gift!

By:  Julie Schwab

Reflect & Pray

In what ways do you feel or act as if you have to earn God’s love? How can you practice living in the freedom of His love?

Faithful God, thank You for freely giving Your Son so I can be a part of Your family. Help me to honor You in all You’ve done for me.

Stationed there. Remote. The front gate was miles away from the main part of the base but close enough to the ‘twin cities’ of Yuba City/Marysville(25,000 pop) so that we were not given remote pay.

Howdy, lauren.

You have my sympathies. Internet issues are no fun! We had no internet most of the weekend and I hope yours isn’t about to go out now.

Stationed there from 1981 - 1987 working with the SR-71. Great assignment and TDYs. The outdoors, especially the hunting and fishing was spectacular. I missed the area from that timeframe.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...has the weather improved.?

Did you and Penny get to go out for a walk and stay dry?

Beautiful and sunny again here today with lots of melting, but low teens overnight.

Hey radu!

You know, I'm basically a stay-at-home guy anyway, not much in my life is changing other than the 2 week work furlough.

I am disappointed though that my gun range has shut down.

Our Governor has declared gun stores and ranges non-essential.

My gun store has remained open nonetheless, basically giving the middle-finger to the Governor, which I agree with.

The Governor today doubled-down saying he will go after non-complying businesses....it's about to get real interesting here.
