Deborah Birx: 'Disappointing' that half a million coronavirus tests not being utilized
Washington Examiner ^ | March 31, 2020 | By Tim Pearce

Posted on 03/31/2020 8:11:04 PM PDT by rintintin

More than 500,000 coronavirus test kits are lying unused around the United States.

“It is disappointing to me right now that we have about 500,000 capacity of [tests] that are not being utilized," Birx said. "They are out. They are in the states. They are not being run and not utilized."

Birx said that much of the confusion is due to changing processes of getting medical test kits to the states. State officials, comfortable with the earlier processes, are missing kits because they are unfamiliar with the new procedures or recent updates.

"So, now we have to figure out how do we create awareness because, sometimes, when you put an early platform out, … people get dependent on that and then don't see that there's availability of other tests," Birx said. "So, right now, there are over half a million tests that are sitting, capacity, that are not being utilized."

Disappointing?

I’d say outrageous

And Birx - although as confusing and vague as ever - seemed to admit it’s because the feds haven’t made it clear to the states that these tests are available for use.

Somebody is screwing up big time. But I guess, good enough for govt work

“Somebody” = FedGov. Period. This is at Trump’s door.

Hello, NeverTrumper. Did you fail to read the article again?

“”They are out. They are in the states. They are not being run and not utilized.” “

The kits have been sent to the states. The states are not using them for whatever reason. It is the states’ responsibility, not FedGov’s. FedGov is responsible for a lot of screwups, but this isn’t one of them, any more than FedGov is responsible for issuing you a speeding ticket on a state highway.

She did make that clear - they’ve told the states and hospitals, they gave them to the states & hospitals ... there was one other possibility that went unstated: there aren’t a half million people with symptoms banging on the hospital waiting room doors all across America ready to take the tests.

Some of them have not, no, but there are ones given to states and the states aren’t distributing them in a timely fashion. There are reports of that elsewhere, even some linked here on FR.

Consider carefully the plusses and minuses of having COVID-19 testing. Do you really want your name on a government data base? Drudge reports that police in some states are being given the names and addresses of COVID-19 patients. What possibly could go wrong?

That’s another matter. She was talking about 500000 that simply haven’t been accessed because the state and locals don’t know about them

As someone who oversees a County, it is outrageous. We had to beg for tests.

You RINO’s are full of Schiff.

Birx didn’t say that at all. But what do you care. NWREP and RINTINTIN are just here to spread misinformation.

You can give a region a billion tests. But the limiting factor is the people to run the tests.

You need people to run the tests.

I am continually surprised at how stupid people are. The tests don’t run themselves.

Maybe there aren’t 500,000 people who want/need the test

If i needed a test, and knew of three test sites, id call all three and ask which could do it quickest.

Apparently those in charge at the state level expected to get an email so they new to stop pkaying animal crossing and do their job.

This is bureaucratic incompetence. Just because Trump is president - and I support him - isn’t going to make me give incompetent federal bureaucrats a pass, or the tongue-tied Dr Birx either.
