China's "wet markets" have reopened - selling bats, pangolins and dogs for human consumption.
The move is dangerous as scientists believe that the Covid-19 causing coronavirus first lurked in a bat in China and hopped to another animal, before getting passed on to humans.
Various reports suggest that a 55-year-old man from China's Hubei province could have been the first person to have contracted Covid-19 through one such "wet market".
"The markets have gone back to operating in exactly the same way as they did before coronavirus," Washington Examiner quoted a correspondent of "A Mail on Sunday" as saying.
However, the markets are under watchful eyes of guards, who ensure no one is able to take pictures of the blood-soaked floors, slaughtering of dogs and rabbits, and scared animals cramped in cages.
Huanan Seafood Market in China's Wuhan is believed to be the epicentre of coronavirus, which swept the world, engulfing millions as far as the United States and killing nearly 38,000 people.
"The evidence is highly suggestive that the outbreak is associated with exposures in one seafood market in Wuhan," the World Health Organisation had said in a statement on January 12.
Four months on, the pandemic seems to be far from over even as Beijing celebrates victory over coronavirus with no vaccination insight for the pathogen, which many people worldwide call Wuhan virus or Chinese virus.
"Everyone here believes the outbreak is over and there's nothing to worry about anymore. It's just a foreign problem now as far as they are concerned," a China-based correspondent was quoted by Washington Examiner.
Several scientists, medical experts and animal rights activists have called for a ban on China's wet markets but the Asian country seems to have not learnt from its mistakes.
I it’s already pretty well established, if you’ve kept up on the posting here, that the bats...I repeat the bats...had nothing to do with this virus. That in fact, the virus originated from the Wuhan biological labs that were doing research on the Bat coronavirus. Most likely, a worker was infected.
What I heard and know from personal experience is Chinese have this thing for fresh protein. They think frozen and prepared foods lose their nutritional value.
If I’m a racist for understanding that their value system is primitive and uncivilized, so be it.
Some people used to say my aunt was all wet because she used
to get dog tired playing the pangolin when she was a girl,
but then it was only that she had bats in the belfry.
Something just isn’t right in China. I don’t know if it’s this
or not, but something is causing massive infections year
after year.
It’s way past time to put an end to it
MAYBE they have opened these disgusting markets because they KNOW the viruses are NOT coming from them.
The bats, the type of bat, that this virus supposedly came from aren found within 500 miles of the Wuhan wet market where this virus supposedly came from.
China continues to lie.
Either that or they know that the Wet Markets weren’t the real cause of the outbreak.
To paraphrase Jim Quinn, if you don’t understand what is going on, you are missing information. If the markets are open again without change, we are missing information.
I dont eat foods with mystery ingredients.
It is the wealthy Chinese....those holding powerful Communist Party positions....that have this desire for exotic wild animals and who promote these wet markets.
We should simply stop dealing with these idiots.
Culture matters.
Look at the restroom of any Chinese restaurant in America.
Love the people, love the food, love the culture. But the health practices are abominable.
The whole world needs to stop doing business with that backward, unhygienic country.
Something about the definition of insanity comes to mind.
whole world does.
They need to be isolated and crushed, MERS, SARS and now CORONA do we need any more evidence?? China is a desease
How about the L-4 Bio Lab in Wuhan? Or did it ever close....
I used to deliver in Chinatown in Boston years ago when I worled up there, and the place is dirty.
I used to get there at 11.00am when they opened and there were rats, mice, cockroaches on the food.
Since that 20 years ago I have never touched Chinese food.
the red meat is left out back with flies on it. A guy was making crab rangoons and dropped his ash in the food as he was smoking. He left it there.
Ducks put in the window on display after being hung up for days in the basement. Yes I saw a rat come from one when I went down there to get the empty beer cases.
If you think you Chinese take out is clean then go around the back where the deliveries are and trust me you will see the lack of hygiene on display.
OH and the smell you can smell from Chinese restaurants is the grease which is weeks old being used again.
If they thought there was a chance the virus actually came from these animals at these markets, this wouldn’t be happening.
They know full well it is one of their bioweapons.
