Too many small biz owners use big box retailers as an excuse for failure.
And now that there’s a stigma coming with the words “Made in China”, small biz might want to use that and run with it.
10,000 of these new additional H2B guest worker visas are specifically set aside for Nicaraguans, Salvadorans and Guatemalans. The very same people who were turned away from seeking asylum.
The most obvious path for not failing has been, until now, sending production to Vietnam or China.
More of a slap will be that some of those farms will get low interest grant/loan from the COVID handout and then hire foreigners. Joy.
Maybe he should ask his boss, Paul Ryan this question.
The problem is that our colleges are turning out garbage. There seems to be an assumption that there are qualified Americans to fill these positions. There also seems to be an assumption that they are worth far more than they are. Prove that wrong and then bitch.
The problem is that our colleges are turning out garbage.
No, the problem is that the globalist tech executives want workers they dont have to pay much, and who dont get the job benefits of American workers. So they bring third world workers in via special visas
I'm not blaming Trump here, but I think maybe he, along with us, are being sold down the river by the globalist tyrannical deep state swamp.
I’m good with that - making a certain set of folks hungry may encourage them to seek work....
And picking produce is a low skill-level job...which is also seasonal - I remember potatoes being 5 cents a pound - you willing to pay $5 a pound for them?
One of the ways hubby paid for his college was doing fieldwork. Didn’t do hubby any harm. And he far preferred it roofing.
If you think the that price would go up 100% if picked by Americans than you are dumber that $h!t.
I agree with you.
Jobs for Americans instead of welfare
Institutions for the mentally ill who cannot care for themselves.
No welfare, foodstamps for basic foods only
no homeless shelters. Instead, low cost housing.
Good luck with that.
You’ve got it backwards. If we didn’t rely on cheap foreign labor who put up with miserable job conditions, farmers and others would make their jobs appealing to Americans.
By allowing any employers in an industry to use the cheap labor that will put up with crappy job conditions other employers have to do the same in order to be competitive. It pulls whole industries down while betraying American workers.
Current prices are between $1 and $2 per lb and going from where I "reminisced" about would be 10,000% (100 for the % x 100 times the original cost.
Learn math then argue - if we were to do what it takes to get Americans to do that sort of labor, on a part-time (or seasonal traveling) basis would increase costs substantially - perhaps obtainable but not in any short-term sense.
Please use facts to explain why I "have it backwards".
Not too many Dust Bowl Okies available for that sort of work...but perhaps you have data to say I'm wrong.
What time frame do you think it would entail to go "all American" and have reliable hands available?
I grew up on a farm. College students (and to a lesser degree high school students) are the natural seasonal workers.
Make the jobs more appealing and you’d have more than enough And yes, it might cost a little more, but that would nudge the automation along—like in the rest of our business sectors.
Perhaps we can return to that sort of work ethic but the problem is being sure you have enough willing and able hands...can't wait until you find you don't have them and then ask for "imports".
The problem is how to make that sort of transition after 50 or 60 years of what we've been doing.
I'm all for using Americans, but it ain't gonna happen overnight - if at all.
Maybe having reps in schools and/or on campus with some "extra perks" could entice a young, healthy section of society to learn the value of hard work to appreciate their future careers even more....same concept of having other trades become available in schools as President Trump has been striving for...I had a bit of work done on a car by some student friends who were attending automotive training as part of HS...seems like they could leverage it as a part education, part business venture and make money for the school programs and even a bit for the students.
Can be done. Those jobs can be made appealing for college students as an alternative to college loans.
I want all 50 million illegals to go home, which would seriously adjust and IMO improve the quality of our economy But for just these next couple of months, for one more year, I’m with Trump in that we don’t need to go disrupting any food production right now.
He still IMO has some blind spots re: the “need” for low skill imported labor, but if ever there were a time to adjust all this stuff, it should be now. Next year, lots of college learning can be done remotely. Would be great for our college students to get some experience working with their hands part of the day and studying another part of the day. Out picking strawberries low to the ground? Let them work a couple of hours a day at that, maybe an hour a day indoors on packing, etc., and they’d have a great time with each other in the evenings. (The farms would have to upgrade their housing, but that’s something that should be done anyway.)
