Military personnel will being treating coronavirus patients at new medical facilities that have popped up in the cities of New York, New Orleans and Dallas, the White House said Thursday, marking a shift in policy for how the Pentagon is aiding in the medical response to the pandemic.
Vice President Pence said at a White House briefing on the virus that President Trump had directed the Department of Defense to use military personnel to operate facilities fully focused on coronavirus patients.
The move comes one day after Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in response to a question from The Hill that the military would not be treating coronavirus patients unless "push comes to shove," asserting the Pentagon's resources are better used building hospitals and treating trauma patients to lighten the load on hospitals.
Instead, the military will operate the Javits Center in New York City, the convention center in New Orleans and the convention center in Dallas.
All three facilities were turned into makeshift hospitals by the Army Corps of Engineers and National Guard to help deal with the surge in patients, though they were initially expected to only house people dealing with illnesses other than coronavirus to help ease the burden on existing hospitals.
The Pentagon has also deployed Naval hospital ships to New York City and Los Angeles to provide additional hospital bed capacity for non-coronavirus patients.

Our military forces are better trained to deal with this kind of disease and some of the unmentioned tasks that would come with it.
Leave it to the military — they will and are being called upon as the civilians of our nation can no longer stomach what is to ensue with this pandemic. And they will step up, fight it, and conquer it, as they always do.

The only problem being ...now our great military will be occupied dealing with this virus, leaving us all more prone to attack.

Thank you! Your comment is good to see. My service was long ago, but seeing the conspiracy theories born in television series and movies over the past couple of generations has saddened me at times.
As a boy, I was in a city destroyed by a hurricane. The National Guard was there to give us dry ice, food for those who needed it, medical help, help with removing road hazards, morale boosts and security against looters. The power and phones were out for weeks, while we cleaned everything up and rebuilt.
Another time, our family car broke down on a highway on a very hot day in Texas. While my dad was working on it, a National Guard unit stopped its convoy there. They gave us some water and helped dad. They were really polite and comforting.
It’s rare to find a soldier who is not well screened, well trained, clean cut and drug free. That’s much better than some of what we see in civilian organizations.

well, just no.....God love them but there are drs and nurses and resp. therapist who work with flu, covid,TB,ARDS, etc routinely 24/7 with a wide variety of patients....

All, I would venture to bet all are given Hydroxychloroquine as a prophylactic. Easy when it's a straight pipeline FDA authorization for off label use right into the hands of all armed forces medical.
