Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s daughter and grandson are missing after authorities say they were seen struggling to return to shore in a canoe near Herring Bay, a family member confirmed Friday.

David McKean says his wife, Maeve Fahey Kennedy Townsend, 41, and son, Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean, 8, are the people last sighted 10 miles south of Annapolis near Herring Bay.

McKean declined to comment further.

Anne Arundel County fire officials say a concerned citizen called 911 around 4:30 p.m. Thursday to report that he saw the woman and her son in a small canoe or kayak from the Columbia Beach community pier.

I am an avid kayaker

When you go out on the water you have to be very aware of the conditions and also be in good enough shape to get yourself out of any kind of trouble you might get into

That being said my prayers are with her and her son for a safe recovery

Wind blowing 30mph yesterday afternoon in the area... sad but it’s either dumb or dumbed by wine

When it comes to the ocean and changing weather conditions, by the time you know you’re in serious trouble it’s probably too late.

The ocean always wins. :0(

plunged

His plane crashed. He was flying in dense fog and he crashed. We don't know if the plane actually plunged, it might have skimmed or slid, but most likely crashed. Nobody really knows exactly what happened to him and his passengers, flying in a private plane while contemplating running for the Senate seat that Hillary Clinton had her eye on and was subsequently elected to.

The water is very cold right now, and I bet the wind kicked up. It’s breezy in PA today. Not a good combination.

The huge storm off the eastern seaboard should have been a concern! https://weather.com/news/weather/video/stunning-satellite-photos-of-storm-off-of-east-coast

The Chesapeake Bay is deadly especially this time of year. The water is cold and today the wind is gusting to 40 mph from the northwest.
They will be extremely fortunate if they are rescued.

Never cross any water with a Kennedy, bridge, boat or plane.

Maryland Natural Resources Police believe the pair may have been paddling the canoe from a residence in Shady Side into the bay to retrieve a ball but were unable to paddle back to shore.

Frigid temps around 51 degrees and "blasting" wind out of the north around 30mph causing continuous waves. Must of been some ball, however, that still doesn't make sense in the face of the conditions and the financial ability to purchase another ball.
