Many years ago I went sailing in the Tidewater area of Norfolk during choppy waters. Got sun burned on my legs so bad I peeled skin twice. Still better than not coming back.

A canoe is simply not safe to use anywhere on the Chesapeake in my opinion. It is a fairly large body of water that is often choppy and windy, especially in the springtime.
Not being critical. Just pointing this out in hopes of preventing another tradgey.
Shady Side is a peninsula. If you drift from shore, you’re in the middle of the bay.
That street is a private dirt road, so no streetview.
