WASHINGTON (SBG)-- A new bill introduced by Michigan Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga Friday morning would treat essential health care workers and first responders like combat soldiers by giving them a federal tax holiday.
The HEROES Act, which stands for "helping our emergency responders overcome emergency situations," aims to ease the financial burden put on those putting themselves in harm's way to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
The idea is to say thank-you to those first responders, those technicians, EMTs, police officers, the firefighters that are going in on the front lines and then certainly in our medical facilities," Huizenga said. "You know those physicians assistants and nurses and doctors that are working directly with patients, but also those that are cleaning the hospitals rooms and that are cleaning the operating rooms and that are cleaning the equipment.

Ahh...no, theyre being well compensated with lots of overtime. They can be proud of this work and their dedication to duty for the rest of their lives.
K, you do know what is happening to providers not on the gment payroll.
Drs, Rns, and employees in private settings are furloughed like crazy.
My husband and sister are close to applying for unemployment.
My husband is volunteering to work without salary to see his patients and I dont know how long we can afford it.
At this point, where would he find new employment. Most providers are furloughed because of the shutdown.
This cannot go on much longer for the nation as a whole.
And another thing, because Im so pissed...what about patients that need care and told no care because its not emergent.
Cancer treatments, general surgery, heart caths....true needs.
Which is not occurring.
Not elective BS like Botox and boob lifts.
Oh goody, another effort to enshrine into law the fallacy that some are more deserving/equal than the rest!
Yah, that “All men are equal under the law” thing is just so quaint! /S
And this is from an alleged R.
So they are working, such as myself, and should get a tax break? No. Its stupid pandering to even suggest something so stupid.
And I suspect he may not be able to do it as a State Tax Holiday either as that would have to go through the State Legislature first.
FYI, I dont want a tax break...just replying to all health care getting lots of overtime pay - short sited BS.
The ones you mention are not on the front line. Why would they get special treatment vs hotel, restaurant or any others adversely impacted?
Yes, they are front line. Health care clinics in both Dallas and rural clinics in Texas.
But you dont speak from poor knowledge.
You didnt read my reply.
Do not want special treatment or tax breaks. No matter the service to this country.
We are all this together.
It was not the Gov asking for this. It was a State Sen, whi happens to be an R
NO, they are not working overtime. Most hospitals are empty and sent nurses home on lockdown or cut their hours in half. My wife has been a nurse for 35 years, hospitals are empty. It’s 90% myth. NYC may be different.
absolutely true, these stories about hospitals overflowing with people are BS. Most are way below normal and nurses are sent home for lockdown.
There was a news story in the past week about hospitals in South Jersey furloughing staff; the lockdown has basically reduced many car accidents, “hold muh beer” incidents (it is South Jersey), workplace accidents and such. There was talk of “re-deploying” staff, but if they play no role in dealing with the Red Chinese Virus then there is little need for them.
Sorry, nobody gets preferential treatment. Besides, aren’t they denying people the cure?
I don’t think that response was for me.
