Long Island hospitals join global battle for coronavirus treatment [clinical trial doc admits delaying treatment to the majority]

Clinical trials are key to effective treatments, even if it means LONG DELAYS IN THE USE OF the MAJORITY OF PATIENTS WHO NEED THEM, said Dr. William Schaffner, medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases and an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“There are any number of drugs in the laboratory that seem to have some kind of anti-viral effect,” he said. “That’s very intriguing. But there’s a long distance between what works in the lab and what works in humans.”

But some experts are pushing back against the hype, warning that none of these findings were the results of rigorous, peer-reviewed trials.

“The one paper that was published has been challenged — severely challenged — by the world of medicine and science,” Tracey said.

Dr. Kenneth Kaushansky, senior vice president of health services and dean of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, said he reached out to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker to discuss Stony Brook as a site for a clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.

“No one believes these drugs are going to be the silver bullet that cures COVID-19,” he said. “At best, it might prevent the disease from progressing.”

Kaushansky said the anecdotal evidence shows it might be effective.

“We ought to be testing that in a carefully controlled clinical trial,” he said

"Clinical trials are key to effective treatments, even if it means LONG DELAYS IN THE USE OF the MAJORITY OF PATIENTS WHO NEED THEM, said Dr. William Schaffner"

i believe that says it all ... "scientists" willing to kill hundreds of thousands of people by denying drugs to "THE MAJORITY OF PATIENTS WHO NEED THEM" until THEY believe that something works ...

yeah, "scientists", tell THAT to the hundreds of thousands who are dying: "Sorry, you'll have to die to uphold our golden standards of "scientific evidence" ...

totally reminds me of the callus disregard of life Nazi "scientists" had ...

“At best, it might prevent the disease from progressing.”

Isn’t that better than watching patients go to a vent at an 80% mortality rate?

This is the ivory tower at work. Not to mention litigation phobic cowards. They are willing to see thousands die if that is the price to pay for a tidy neat scientific publication in an unknown medical journal some time next year.

Bureaucrats doing what bureaucrats gonna do.

They protect their processes above all else and hide behind the word “science.”

They are married to clinical trials not necessarily for the science but because that is what the process is. Those trials are about data and not necessarily about how a drug is supposed to work.. Those trials are about playing the government’s game. In theory it is about efficacy and safety, or at least it is supposed to be.

In this case we have a regime involving two known drugs with known side effects. We have a known (in general) biochemical process that a virus follows. The drugs have a known effect on that process. So why not try it?

The FDA doesn’t care. As long as there is a new, off label use involved, they approach this as is the drug were experimental, as if they had never been approved in the first place. Oh sure, they may allow that off label use. But as far as the bureaucrats are concerned, until you pass their sacred process, that off label use is purely “cowboy.”

And moving the Fauci’s of the world off of that view requires what the regulations says it requires and nothing less will do. Trials must be done, months and years must pass. That is the way.

It is past time for the researchers to be replaced by the practitioners. Every hospital should conduct virtual
M & M briefings. What is new, what is being done, what is working, what is not working, who are walking out of the hospital, who is not, why? Those are the kind of studies that need to be done at a minimum of every week, probably every day.

While allowing THE PATIENT’S IMMUNE SYSTEM to “cure” the COVID-19 by production and releasing of antibodies. They are QUIBBLING.

Just watched the President”s news conference today. After the conference watched CNN and MSNBC wrapup. They fell all over themselves trying to convince the viewing public that everything the President says is false when he was making suggestions without the collaberation of his medical advisers. Then MSNBC had the English clown, Jonathon Swan, giving a third hand report on a meeting of the Presidents advisers having a disagreement. What a maroon! Both networks have dug down into the bottom of the barrel to find these anti-Trump specialists to give negative statements.

I’m beginning to suspect this is all a ruse much like masks not being effective for the general public. Can’t have the masses sucking up all the supply, they need it to protect their own floozie @sses.

That’s fine for a new, out of the laboratory drug that may work well with mice and monkeys, but hasn’t been extensively tested on humans. But Hydroxychloroquine has been widely used in the USA to treat a malaria, lupus, and other ailments since 1955, and has been on WHO’s list of most important and effective drugs for years. While some people may have unpleasant side effects, the side effects are preferable to death. The worst case scenario is that Hydroxychloroquine is not as effective as thought; the upside is that it saves lives.

Whatever happened to allowing a patient to decide which drugs they wish to receive?

Fauci is not a wartime general. Shoving everything into months long trial isn’t helping the front lines. Time to move, and move quick. 24/7 if need be.

Fauci is the Omar Bradley of this fight. Too rigid and too conservative.

This fight needs a Patton or “Terrible Terry” Allen.

I love WW2 history, in case you can’t tell.

I am seeing some stories on who is most affected by this stuff and it seems to be blacks who are most affected. Some say half of the COVID-19 deaths are blacks. Even Elizabeth Warren was demanding the breakout of deaths by race.

If this is true then this stuff is definitely going to be used to smear Trump as in “a delayed reaction because Trump knew the bulk of the victims would be black.”

And not a care in the world that half of all black children are killed before they are born. The Democrats sure like their pets, don’t they?

CDC has known since 2005 that Chloroquine works to stop corona viruses, both if infected and as a prophylactic. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16115318 in the margin there are more papers that discuss this.

It has to be HCQ + Zn sulphate + azitromycin. HCQ helps Zn ion to penetrate cells where it slows down virus replication, whereas AZM protects from secondary bacterial infection. Pretty logical, cheap and scalable regimen. In the absence of Zn sulphate as a source of Zn, those micro quantities of Zn from food may still get into cells, but it may not be enough to stop the replicase, the absence of HCQ may slow down Zn supply to the cells, with the same effect.
