If we had REAL journalists in this country Dr. Birx would suffer a meltdown under withering cross-examination later today.

To be fair, mitigation is part of why the number came down. But I’m sure there was a Big Government Exaggerating component, too.
A few weeks ago President Trump expressed the hope that we could be getting back to normal by April 12 (Easter). Then that faded and I don’t think anyone expects that any more.
But if the numbers are really coming out as indicated, and if the zinc-based regimen is actually effective, then we really should be getting back to normal sooner rather than later.

In last year’s flu, did the whole country go on paralysis to lessen its effects?
The comparison is no comparison.
I have to say— I understand the skepticism, but in the last 48 hours 3 people I am directly connected to have perished. One is fighting to stay of a respirator. It is not the total death rate that is the issue, it is the concentration of mulitple deaths all at once that is traumatic.
The theory for the alarm was (1) we have a “vaccine” for the seasonal flu, (2) Covid-19 deaths would be “overwhelming” because they would be IN ADDITION to the flu deaths, instead (as is now likely) just INSTEAD OF flu deaths, (3) the contagious/infectious ability of Covid-19 was unknown, and (4) they have tests for the known viruses they call the “seaonal flu” viruses, but no tests at the start for the Covid-19 bug.
I think public policy was in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t position; going to be damned if they over reacted and the deaths were less than they expected; damned if they under appreciated the severity of the infectious abilities of the new bug and deaths greatly exceeded expectations.
Both sides now:
Birx & Fauci went with worst case....which probably scared DjT.
Stay at home, etc. has probably helped.
But it was mercilessly overhyped to get Trump.
As I see it
They must of suddenly realized there is no way to sell the mass carnage as the evidence weighs against them.
Just like when their lies about the dossier and impeachment ran out of anything resembling evidence ..because there wasn’t any in the first place!

“They” will do anything to not let that happen.
They can not let Trump have Easter.
They need a big stall or distraction...House bill? Accusations that the meds killed someone?

The problem was we never got any of that uncertainty or honesty in the early days.
The projection was, “500,000 WILL die in the UK etc. etc.”
We never heard any qualifiers like “well it’s still in the early stages, so we don’t have complete data yet, so these numbers could go either way ...”
None of that. Just the worst-case scenarios all the time, scaring people unnecessarily. Countries on lockdown. And NOW we find out the abuse with statistics that took place, and the damage because of it

You see it right, but now Trump can congratulate the American People, get the economy rolling again in May, get the Dow back to 25K by Nov, have the NFL kick off on time which means no need for stupid election rule changes.
Dems will pivot away from Trump was slow to act to racial disparatey of the sick and died which means we have an unequal heath care system and therefore we need total Govt control Obamacare 2.0, and since Trumps is against socialized medicine he still is a racist
Also California, which Gov. Newsom has successfully locked down, suddenly says it can donate 500 ventilators to other states that have a greater need.
And yet, and yet, and yet — wasn’t California supposed to be like something out of The Walking Dead in terms of being hard hit and suffering a complete epidemic?
If it’s that bad in California — why are they giving 500 ventilators away to the national stockpile?
That was the 2017-2018 flu season, and if you think the media barely reported it, you either weren’t paying attention or have a very bad memory.
I got my first flu shot ever in January 2018. I had never even considered getting one before that year.
