A majority of voters continue to approve of President Trump despite a media onslaught driven by the rise in deaths from the coronavirus, according to a new national survey provided to Secrets.
In the latest Zogby Analytics survey, 51% approve of Trump’s job, while 47% do not. A 51% approval rating is considered the level needed for reelection.
And while the survey found that the public isn’t ready to blame the president for the mounting virus crisis, his handling of the issue is under water slightly: 48% approve, and 52% disapprove.
“There is no doubt there have been major mishaps from the federal government, such as, a lack of testing kits and getting needed medical supplies to ‘hotspots’ in NYC and New Jersey, but the public isn’t ready yet to completely blame Trump for the federal government’s failures,” said the survey analysis from Jonathan Zogby.
His poll and analysis suggested that while the public may not be keen on Trump’s argumentative nature or his hits on the media during his daily coronavirus task force briefings, many, and especially his base, see him as the leader in the war.
“It might make the mainstream media and his detractors scream, but to his supporters and almost half the country, he is producing results,” said Zogby.
What’s more, he said that Trump is winning respect for his efforts to focus on getting the economy back in business while he and his administration fight the spread of the virus.
“He is also speaking honestly when he says we cannot stay in lockdown forever. It might not be what we ultimately do, or the right thing, but he’s being honest that life will have to go back to a semblance of normality in the future. It might not be reality but it’s comforting to some people in this moment of unpredictability,” said the analysis.
Zogby found approval of Trump among middle-age voters, Catholics, those in small towns, those without college degrees, and millennials and Generation Z members.
But he continues to lag among suburbanites and independents.
Still, Trump’s support among black voters is getting better. “Trump’s numbers continue to improve with African American voters; his current job approval rating is 36% at least somewhat approve/63% at least somewhat disapprove,” said the survey.
Zogby’s bottom line: “Despite cries that Donald Trump has not taken the coronavirus pandemic seriously, or waited too long to act swiftly before the virus spread, voters still believe he is doing a good job. He has shown a tremendous amount of energy during a difficult crisis. When it comes to President Trump certain things must be separated—primarily his personality, rhetoric and his actions. Can the argument be made the government wasn’t prepared, didn’t have the right amount of supplies, or was unable to come up with a sound plan to make available millions of test kits, the answer is yes! But at the same time, the president heeded the advice of his task force, worked with Congress to pass the biggest stimulus bill ever (The CARES Act), and provided aid to multiple states that were hit hardest by the crisis.”

Zogby has devolved into a leftist leaning pollster...so Trump’s approval is very likely even higher.
They should also ask people about what they think of the news media. Bet many of the responses would be a lot like the ones expressed in that scene in Good Morning Vietnam when the people at the radio station were taking in calls and letters from people angry with Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) being taken off the air and replaced by Lieutenant Hauk (Bruno Kirby).
Seems like it was Rasmussen about two weeks ago had approval of POTUS’ handling of the virus response at 60%.
Wait till the Democrat story all begins to fall apart in 2 weeks.

For comparison, G.W. Bush was at 90% approval on 9/21/2001. It shows you how divided the country is during this pandemic. No rally to country or cause.
Like all of us, I wish this had not happened, but overall I think this crisis was a chance for voters to see Trump more clearly outside the fog of media hatred and bias.
Trump has been calm and effective and more people are paying attention to the news now than ever before given all the uncertainty.
Furthermore, love him or hate him (I love him) there can be little doubt that he is the right person to try and get our economy back on track and it has not yet sunk in for many Americans how bad this was.
Zogby is a dem run pollster and the president of the polling group said 10 years ago he prefers dems..i thought everyone knew this.
Crisis is going to waste for the left. It is time to wind it down and try something else.

Exactly. The media really is the only reason he is hitting head winds. They keep reminding/lying to people as to the severity of the virus. He didn’t jail masses of people like China did, so the USA will likely end up with more cases of COVID 19. The media continues to report without providing any perspective whatsoever. Even Fox News is 24/7 talking about the virus.
