If you believe that natural immunity doesn't last long, then you certainly can't rely on a vaccine-acquired immunity to do better.

Coronaviruses like the flu and COVID-19 mutate. Acquired immunity against one strain may not work against the next or the one after...or even another strain spreading at the same time.

Immunity from from being afflicted with and damaged by a disease is not redeveloped within a person's body to defeat or weaken subsequent mutations of a virus. Although vaccines are developed in advance of a season, there are efforts to develop vaccines for strains that are overseas and headed this way.
