Gumball Rally was a better movie than the Cannonball Run movies.

I agree. The Gumball Rally was a fun movie that I saw when it came out and several times since. However, one bone to pick with the movie. In a cross-country race, a Cobra Roadster is not going to beat a Ferrari Daytona. As a true GT, the Daytona is made for extremely high-speed cruising. In this case, Enzo would beat Carroll.

The modern run started in 1971 as the ‘Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash’, organized by Brock Yates who was writing for Car & Driver magazine at the time. Dan Gurney and Brock Yates drove a Ferrari Daytona to first place.

One of my most enjoyable driving experiences was while on vacation in Germany. Love the Autobahn!

No kidding. Not just The Bahn, but those amazing back roads and rural driving. No wonder Germany makes such amazing cars.

Next time you're there, try driving The Ring. If you're a car guy, stay in Nurburg for a few nights.

Probably confusing the Spitfire with the MG Midget.

MGs and Triumph (a separate company)

Depends on the date, youngster (or Boomer, whichever is appropriate).

Between 1975 and 1980 they were both part of British Leyland Limited after the Socialists (Wilson/Callaghan) in Britain nationalized the domestic manufacturers. Before that MG was British Motor Holdings (the Socialist Wilson's forced merger) and Triumph was Leyland (primarily a truck and bus maker). They may have been under the same ownership as early as the late 60s.

Oh. You mean both of them were let loose? Well, and Burt too.

Yeah, but lots more cops around with nothing to do.

The cops may be out, they don't appear to be pulling anyone over around here. Most are doing 20 over the limit, flying right by the cops who sit there and do nothing.

I'm not kidding. Speed limits around me appear to barely be recommendations anymore.

No, I don’t think that would help. The mix is optimized for fuel injection systems to make the gas atomize when injected. I believe that it breaks down in the 6-12 month range. I notice that my can I use for yard tools needs to be refreshed every 6 months and I put Stabil in it.

You can use ANY vehicle you wish & you can modify it in any way you wish.

In the past, even hearses were used, and extra gas tanks installed.

If I remember correctly, the Cannonball Run is east to west “’

From the Red Ball parking garage in NYC to the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach, Calif.

“... lots more cops around with nothing to do.”

I commute ~50 miles round trip and have been seeing practically NO police when I used to see at least a dozen each way. Now it is one every other day. I have even been discussing it with my co-workers that have long drives.

It was so bizarre last week to glance at the time as I pulled up to a gas pump in Babylon LI, noting that it was 7:55am, then pulling into Calvary cemetery in Maspeth NYC 35 minutes later! A trip that on a very good day takes an hour and a half and more usually takes 2 to 2 and a half.

Especially with all the donut shops closed.

The cops in our state are stopping no one under 90 mph. And if it’s a Lamborghini on an open stretch, they simply admire it.
