CNN, NBC, Bloomberg, Politico all change headlines on same story that tells truth about Dems
World Net Daily ^ | April 11, 2020 at 3:03am | Johnathan Jones, The Western Journal

For a few minutes Thursday, a number of establishment media outlets reported the truth by accurately noting that Senate Democrats had blocked a Republican proposal to offer further assistance to small businesses during the coronavirus shutdown.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell attempted to pass a White House-backed $250 billion relief package aimed at helping small businesses Thursday by unanimous consent -- as most lawmakers are currently not in Washington.

Republicans sought to increase funding for the Paycheck Protection Program from $350 billion to $600 billion.

Democrats, seeking to add an additional $250 billion for pet projects and double the amount Republicans were seeking, made sure nothing got done.

Similarly to how they held up progress on the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, Democrats were seeking to take advantage of the urgency in helping small businesses stay afloat during the nationwide shutdown by trying to attach unrelated additional spending to the bill.

When they didn't receive their special provisions, Democrats blocked the legislation from moving forward.

Astonishingly, establishment media outlets reported the facts and relayed to their readers which party had played politics with the livelihoods of struggling Americans.

Sadly, that all changed when, one by one, four news outlets updated their headlines to portray the failure in helping American workers as a bipartisan one -- thus absolving the Democrats of being held accountable for their obstructionism.

CNN covered the congressional news and published a story headlined "Democrats block GOP-led funding boost for small business aid program" at 10:36 a.m. Thursday.

By 11:15 am, the headline on the story was adjusted to read, "Senate at stalemate over more COVID-19 aid after Republicans and Democrats block competing proposals.”

This is so stupid. I am all for fiscal prudence. Lord knows I’ve made my share of financial mistakes.

But when I saw the $2.2 Trillion bailout, I knew that what they allocated for small business was totally inadequate. And shame on the GOP for not knowing it when they passed it.

But this bill doubling the amount should be passed. I can think of many ways to pay for it, some of them very unorthodox. Nevertheless when you tell a million small businesses to shutter for 6-8 weeks, you have to compensate them.

The Dems are shameless to hold this up and adding riders regarding voting, green new deal BS. Small businesses are really hurt by the closures. And that will spread... nonpayment of leases. Layoffs. Missed mortgage payments. The state cannot order people out of work without compensation.

“ The state cannot order people out of work without compensation.”

I agree. They can’t do that. But, that is exactly what they are doing. PPP may reach 20% of the effected businesses. Maybe! By the way, “affected” is about 99% of businesses wheather they are closed or not.

The the rest of the US should send money to New York, Illinois, and Michigan for their excessive state requirements against business, even when the Federal government only provides guidance?

You sound like a Cuomo supporter.

Well you can send a correction!

Did you read it.

After putting out fair and balanced reports, they all quickly felt the need to make revisions in order to paint Democrats as not being at fault for harming American businesses looking for relief.

For all of their blatant lies and sensational headlines meant to paint Republicans as the bad guys, CNN and the others couldn’t surrender to the truth for a single day.

Not exactly what I said.
Really, the states with closure orders owe compensation.
Not the fedgov which closed nothing (other than maybe D.C. and Guam and Puerto Rico).

Frankly, and I am aware of the risks of this precedent, I think Congress should just order the printing of the money. Not borrow. In this particular case, there is almost zero risk of inflation. We are surely in a recession and deflationary period so the risk of inflation is low.

But, as I said, going down that road is very risky precedent. The positive side of things could be, get rid of the federal reserve and all taxes and just print the money. Any inflation in the larger economy would become a defacto tax on all people. If the price of milk and bread triples, it hurts everyone. And everyone would become fiscally prudent and demand Congress stop kicking the can down the road and playing games.

But I admit and concede, I’m a dreamer.

“unanimous consent” is a violation of the U. S. Constitution.
Article 1, Section 5.

The deficit sky may fall, but the debt bomb will likely explode (implode?) before then.

We can’t continue on the road we’re on.

I am trying to think down the road. It may be a very bad choice. But to my thinking, the people need to rethink the role of the federal government. And I’m almost at a loss for how. Maybe this virus thing will do the trick. But at some point people have to wake up to games being played. By my thinking, if you got rid of the federal reserve and repealed the 16th Amendment, any spending will result in inflation. And inflation is very bad for the citizens. The result of that could be an awakening. It’s far too easy to just charge the debt to future generations of the yet to be born. If we want it now, we have to pay for it now.

IMO that kind of thinking will change a lot of minds. And again I admit and concede, I’m a dreamer.

You miss the point! The Western Journal story was about the attempt to pass the bill.

The WND story certainly lifted the text of the Western Journal article, but the point of the WND story was how four different news outlets decided to change their headlines. All the original headlines gave credit to the GOP for the initiative to aid small business and all the original headlines pointed out that the Democrats blocked the aid. All the changed headlines neglected to credit the GOP with the funding initiative and blamed the lack of passage to deadlock, as if both parties were playing politics.

Not exactly.

When the Dems blocked the Republican proposal they reported it correctly.

Once the Reps blocked the Dem proposal they reported that each side blocked the other.

Actually sounds like perfectly fair reporting to me.

Need clarification, please.

Attempted to reply to the statement:

“original article stolen lock, stock, and barrel by WND:”

My post was a poor attempt to show where WND had given attribution to The Western Journal. Seems WND has begun aggregating in some instances.

Not getting the gist of your post. Sorry :^[

‘Kinda’ slower than usual.

My fault. There weren't any quote marks or italics or anything so I didn't realize you were posting a quote from the article, not your own opinion.
