In 2018 — nearly two years before the start of the global coronavirus pandemic — U.S. officials in China sent warnings to Washington expressing safety concerns over a Wuhan facility's research into coronaviruses in horseshoe bats, adding weight to the theory that the novel virus originated in a lab and not at a Wuhan wet market.
The news broke in a report Wednesday by Josh Rogin of the Washington Post, who said that he obtained access to the first of two diplomatic cables sent from State Department officials who had visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology in January and March 2018.
According to Rogin, in January 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing sent American science diplomats to the Wuhan lab, which had in 2017 become the first lab in China to achieve BSL-4 clearance, or the highest level of bioresearch safety. That clearance — granted by a Chinese accrediting agency — allowed researchers at the lab to study the world's most dangerous pathogens.
Evidently, what the U.S. officials discovered during their visits concerned them so much that they proceeded to send two Sensitive But Unclassified cables back to Washington. In the first cable, according to Rogin, the officials warned that inadequate safety measures and risky research could result in a new SARS-like pandemic.
"During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators to safely operate this high-containment laboratory," states the Jan. 19, 2018 cable.
"Most importantly...the researchers also showed that various SARS-like coronaviruses can interact with ACE2, the human receptor identified for SARS-coronavirus. This finding strongly suggests that SARS-like coronaviruses from bats can be transmitted to humans to cause SARS-like diseases. "

I have been posting and talking about this for months with a lot of links. Not sure why media has decided now to focus on this..its not new information. Its been readily available to even the worst internet search ability dummy.
No reason for it to go Hot, but we need to go to war against China. We shouldn’t buy from them or sell to them. Economic warfare like we’ve never done before. Tariffs seem like a good way to make trade with China a losing proposition.
No doubt it came from the Wuhan Lab. China owes the U.S. taxpayers trillions.
It takes an "Indiana Jones" level of effort to find these specific rare bats in those remote jungle caves. They were brought to Wuhan to study in the bio-labs, not to sell and eat.

Methinks we did something similar with Japan back in the 1930s, and their government wasn’t in the precarious state the ChiComs are in now.
But I do agree with you, even with the real risk of starting a war.
I am more concerned with the Dems and Globalists here who side with the CCP.
I see where this is going. President Dr. Trump knew this was going to happen two years ago and did nothing. Just like Bush knew 9/11 was going to happen and did nothing.
We will have to see which way it all goes but I think the “Deep State/Globalists” in the US will want to maintain the status quo with China.
Dealing with China the foreign aggressor and draining the swamp really becomes the same thing. The reason it’s hard to do, is the reason you have to do it.
But we’ll have to see if we succeed or not.
History books will have such nice neatly balanced stories to tell future children about these horrible people called Republicans and why the Internationale is their savior.

Our retaliation/retribution options are limited at this time due to our dependence on the China supply chain. Its going to take awhile for us to break that dependency and by that time domestic pressures to retaliate will have subsided.
More likely we’ll see some form of symbolic actions that don’t really punish the Chinese for the damage they’ve done to us.
Similar to our side raising the specter of Communists already in our government and being called "crazy" amongst other descriptives. Those folks will eventually be exonerated.

BEIJING — China has opened its first bio-safety level four laboratory, capable of conducting experiments with highly pathogenic microorganisms, according to the national health authority on Thursday.
Wuhan national bio-safety level four lab of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Wuhan P4 lab) is part of Sino-French cooperation in prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, said the Department of Health Science, Technology and Education with the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
Level four is the highest bio-safety level, used for diagnostic work and research on easily transmitted pathogens which can cause fatal disease, including Ebola virus.
The Wuhan P4 lab will conduct research in anti-virus drugs and vaccines.
