Not only should PBS and NPR be totally taxpayer defunded, they should be barred from any federal grants, that includes money given for block grant distribution by States and Local governments.

Further the FCC should auction off the bandwidth they hold on radio and TV. If they want to compete, then make them pay full price.

I am sick of their bias. While the amount of federal funding has declined, this liberal swamp needs to stop any federal funding and subsidies.

I’d give these hypocrites a listen if they ever asked anyone else “tough questions.” Has this reporter asked any of the public health officials or Governors about their projections as to cases, hospitalizations, ventilator use and deaths, every damn one of which has be wrong by orders of magnitude???

I really do not think the exchange between Trump and Alcindor referenced in the article is accurate.

Even my wife, a liberal NPR member, disapproves of Alcindor’s questions.

Nothing truthful about PBS; they are just nasty.

Ronald Reagan classically feigned poor hearing

He didn't have to feign it. Both his hearing and eyesight were AWFUL.

The CPB/PBS/NPR axis is a publicly (taxpayer) subsidized MSM that totally fails its original mandate of bringing to the public airways content not otherwise viable via the other over-the-air ‘commercial’ options. Their ‘news’ programming IS duplicative in tone and content to every other of the MSM sources! These participants can easily join their compatriots elsewhere. The sooner, the better!

Constructive criticism from viewers like you is important. It holds broadcast editors, producers, anchors and reporters to account. And at a time when misinformation can be as dangerous as disinformation, I’ll count on audiences to continue telling us if PBS journalists are getting it right. ---- Despotism (Encyclopedia Britannica film, circa 1946)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaWSqboZr1w

“A community is low on a ‘Respect’ scale if common courtesy is withheld from large groups of people on account of their political attitudes.”

“...in a downright despotism opposition is dangerous whether the despotism is official or whether it is unofficial...”

“A community rates low on the ‘Information’ scale when the press, radio, and other channels of communication are controlled by only a few people and when citizens have to accept what they are told.”

“See how a community trains its teachers”
“...these students are being taught to accept uncritically whatever they are told. Questions are not encouraged.”

“And if books and newspapers and the radio [and facebook and youtube and...] are officially controlled the people will read and accept exactly what the few in control want them to. Government censorship is one form of control. The newspaper that breaks the government censorship rule can be suspended. It is also possible for newspapers and other lines of communication to be controlled by private interests...”

Democracy (Encyclopedia Britannica film, circa 1946)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx25aMPvbJo

“The newspapers of a real democracy meet these tests...”

Newspaper checks.
1. Balance of coverage
2. Disclosure of source
3. Competence of staff

Where is the BALANCED presentation on PBS/NPR????

“She is doing exactly what is expected of a free press in our democracy: posing timely, pertinent questions to those in power on behalf of the American people.”

She does no such damn thing. Her only interest is repeatedly posing gotcha questions that have been answered numerous times in order to cast doubt on President’s response to the pandemic. Her questions are as enlightening as a chimp flinging poop.

Her questions are not questions, they are accusations. It’s one of the oldest and most transparent tricks in the book - frame the question and force the subject to deny guilt. It happens so often these days that some people, especially other journalists, mistake it for journalism.

David Gergen appeared on the PBS MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour in the mid-nineteen eighties as a counterweight to a liberal commentator on political discussions. What a laugh... PBS went into the tank for the left and has ever come out since then into the fresh air. Even PBS nature etc. programs are badly slanted. No government funding should go to the CPB.
