Protesters pressure Texas government to reopen state as coronavirus death toll grows

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Texas State Capitol Saturday calling on government leaders to reopen Texas – as the state’s death toll from COVID-19 continues to grow.

People attending the “You Can’t Close America” rally ignored social distancing guidelines and could be heard chanting “let us work.”

It comes just a day after Gov. Greg Abbott announced executive orders to open state parks and some businesses as part of a phased reopening of Texas.

When I last hear the phrase “social distancing” spoken, I will do a cartwheel.

Texas had about 500 hundred dead out of 26 million! Abbott did nothing to help Texas unemployment with his weak 1st part of a 3 part reopening. He is trying to get as close to June as possible when most small businesses will have failed.

"...as the state’s death toll from COVID-19 continues to grow."

Okay, I am calling the person who wrote this story out. For crappy journalism.

There could be no deaths for two days. And then a death.

And people could be wanting to pressure the government to reopen the state.

And the writer would still write "as the state’s death toll from COVID-19 continues to grow.

Because every subsequent death means the death toll grows!

It may seem pedantic, but I am pointing out that the journalist who wrote this story is the pedantic one.

All to shape a narrative.

Awful journalism.

The small business owners should be out in droves protesting "let them eat ice cream" Pelosi and in rebellion they should start opening up their businesses!!

I can honestly say that I have never seen or heard that man utter a word as I refuse to watch the cable news reporting on this worldwide and serious pandemic. Or the other Doctor chick that people are always referring to. Anyone who has been around the business world will tell you that often, turds will float to the top in any organization. Just because he can throw around big words that are unrecognizable to most of us does not mean that he is the sharpest knife in the drawer. In my profession, some of the brightest, most-capable people came from towns and universities that no one would know of. And some of the biggest doofuses I have had the pleasure of working with came with quite the pedigree.

Austin is rapidly becoming the new San Diego. Which is a true pity because even though it has always been left of center, the people in charge really not trying to maintain the character, culture, and beauty of the city. Now, it is becoming nothing more than a dumping ground and liberalism has run amok..

Several weeks ago, I had my tv on during the briefing, but with the sound off. Fauci was on camera. I knew then what we were dealing with.

Protesters pressure Texas government to reopen state as coronavirus death toll grows

"as the death toll grows".

Geez!

The headline seems to imply that until COVID deaths in Texas totally stop and reach zero, the state should not be open.

It’s propaganda

It’s not about total deaths any more.
It is about the slowing down of new cases.
To continue destroying USA when the number of new cases is declining, is not acceptable.

Texas – as the state’s death toll from COVID-19 continues to grow

I live in "the Houston area", and this morning I received a call from my sister in Alabama who was worried about me and my wife after watching "the news about Texas". At first I thought there must have been some tornadoes last night, but no; she was calling about the Coronavirus. The news reports must be saying people are dropping like flies here.

they have said from nearly the beginning that NONE of this was about keeping people from getting the virus. NOTHING can or could be done from everyone getting this basically. The whole idea was to FLATTEN the curve so that not everyone got sick at the same time need Ventilators which were not available in large enough quantities. We gained the time needed to prepare and the curve has flattened. Now we need to open back up (urging common sense handwashing etc) and let what is GOING to happen, happen. It was ALWAYS going to happen, it was always just a matter of how many at once.

A couple of days ago, I talked to a state senator that I know here in Louisiana, and he said he’s getting INTENSE heat from his constituents to get the state back open. I think when the state/local government deadheads start losing their jobs - and they will because tax revenues have been vaporized - things will move along pretty fast.
